The Organisation

The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) was established in January 2020. Its main campus is located in Port Vila and its purpose is to provide higher education advancement and lifelong learning through academic and professional excellence by way of training, teaching and learning in both the English and French official languages, research and international cooperation. The NUV has two Faculties – the Faculty of Humanities with five schools and the Faculty of Science and Technology also with five Schools established.
 
The Position
The Lecturer in Information and Communication Technology will be responsible for developing courses, teaching and undertaking research in ICT subjects for the National University of Vanuatu. The Lecturer will contribute to the development and delivery of undergraduate ICT courses in accordance with the academic priorities of the NUV School of Science and the broader strategic direction of the University.
 
The Lecturer in Information and Communication Technology will be responsible for:
  • Developing and teaching ICT courses in areas such as Software Engineering, Databases, Cloud Computing, DevOps, Networks and Server Systems, and Cybersecurity.

  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, laboratories and practical classes, and developing assessments that support independent learning.

  • Mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Undertaking individual and collaborative research relevant to ICT disciplines, including publishing research and presenting findings at national, regional and international conferences.

  • Supporting the development of student career pathways and internship opportunities through engagement with universities, government agencies, NGOs, private sector partners and professional bodies in Vanuatu and the Pacific region.

  • Contributing to the development of the School of Science and the National University of Vanuatu through academic collaboration, innovation, quality teaching and service to the University."

Essential Selection Criteria
► Ph.D. in an IT-related domain with proven experience in developing and delivering university courses.
► Minimum 2 years course development and teaching experience at university level (full-time or significant part-time) in a recognized institution
► Evidence of having both developed and delivered university-level courses
► Demonstrated research record and capacity to secure research project funding
► Experience in IT industry projects or high-profile engagement within the IT community.
► An understanding of ICT careers and industry skill/HR needs in the Pacific
► Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated through experience working effectively in teams and engaging with the private sector, government agencies and professional bodies.
► Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
► Ability to deliver course content and communicate fluently in English; French and Bislama language skills are an advantage.
► If not a ni-Vanuatu citizen, meet the immigration requirements of the Republic of Vanuatu, and be willing to live and work in Port Vila on a full-time basis.
