The Opportunity

The University of the South Pacific seeks to fill the position of Teaching Assistant Climate Change in the Centre for Sustainable Futures. The appointees will be responsible for providing academic teaching support for undergraduate Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor programmes in Climate Change through tutorials, practical sessions, laboratory demonstrations and field-based learning activities. This role will assist course coordinators with Moodle management, preparation of teaching materials, assessment support and student communications.  The teaching assistant will provide academic support to students to enhance engagement, retention and achievement of course learning outcomes. The position contributes directly to strengthening the quality and consistency of teaching across large undergraduate cohorts. This role supports school’s strategic goals by improving student learning experiences, academics success and delivery of USP’s climate change education priorities.

 

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • For Teaching Assistant in Band 1 level: A good Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Science or Climate Change and a good first bachelor’s degree in environmental science/studies or relevant field.
  • For appointment at the Teaching Assistant Band 2 level: applicants must also have a Masters in Climate Change, Environmental Science/Studies or relevant field with some Tertiary teaching experience and progress towards attaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (PGCTT) or equivalent.
  • Must be a citizen of one of the USP member countries.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Be a strong team player

 

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Relevant tertiary teaching experience of at least 1-2 years at undergraduate levels.
  • Have worked as a tutor or teaching assistant at any recognized University during his or her postgraduate studies.
  • Experience in supervising fieldwork.
  • Good understanding of Pacific cultures.

Salary Range

Band 1: FJ $40,050.64 to FJ $ 48,683.23 per annum;
Band 2: FJ $50,385.84 to FJ $55,863.68 per annum.
