Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Plantation Island Resort is seeking a reliable and skilled Carpenter to join our Engineering team. This role is responsible for carrying out carpentry repairs, maintenance, and improvement works across the resort to ensure all guest rooms, public areas, and staff facilities are maintained to a high standard.

The Carpenter will perform routine inspections, repairs to furniture, doors, windows, fittings, and timber structures, as well as assist with renovation and refurbishment projects as required. The ideal candidate will have strong carpentry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with resort standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and building plans
  • Assist supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installation of carpentry work
  • Construct building frameworks, including roof, walls, floors, windows and doors
  • Conduct inspections, repair work and installation of doors, windows, drywall, cabinets, stairs, and other fixtures as required
  • Assess quality and quantities of materials for carpentry tasks
  • Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials
  • Use hand tools, including squares, levels, and chisels, as well as many power tools, such as sanders, circular saws, nail guns, and woodworking machines
  • Erect shoring or scaffolding for building work
  • Care and maintain tools and equipment, ensuring all items are securely stored during breaks and at the end of each day
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with local building codes, and health and safety regulations
  • Any other reasonable task as requested by your manager

About You:

  • Minimum 2 years practical trade experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of OHS and workplace safety specifically related to carpentry work
  • Minimum Certificate III Level Trade Certificate in Carpentry
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans
