Senior Tourism Officer (MINISTRY OF TOURISM AND CIVIL AVIATION)

The Senior Tourism Officer is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of tourism policies and strategies for the sustainable development and growth of the Fiji tourism industry. 

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following:

1) Implement policies, strategies and procedures that maximize Government investments for the sustainable development of the tourism industry;

2) Coordinate and support the implementation of the National Sustainable Tourism Framework and its Action Plan;

3) Support the co-creation and delivery of community-based tourism initiatives

4) Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen sustainable tourism development;

5) In collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, develop findings and recommendations and prepare briefs and policies that provide analytical information that meets the needs of stakeholders;

6) Analyze and verify data and assessments of stakeholder reports and project proposals and provide recommendations to support evidence-based decision making;

7) Provide secretariat support services, develop reports, updates and implement action items; and

8) Actively contribute to the Ministry and corporate requirement, including planning, budgeting and human resource activities where required. 

Knowledge & Experience

1. 1) At least five years experience in tourism or a related field
2. 2) Demonstrated experience in research, analysis and report writing;
3. 3) Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging global tourism trends;
4. 4) Sound knowledge of project planning and principles; and
5. 5) Understanding of the Fijian tourism industry, related issues and trends.

Skills & Abilities

1. 1) Sound communication, interpersonal and written presentation skills;
2. 2) Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and organise activities, projects and work cooperatively within a team environment;

Additional Information

Applicants for employment in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment.
