The position is responsible to assist the Manager Risk Management and Research to conduct comprehensive research, data collection and analysis to assist in the development of National Disaster policies and programmes.
1. Provide policy advice on the implementation of Fiji’s National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy (NDRRP) and the alignment of the NDRRP against the key outcomes of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and regional commitments under the Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP).
2. Responsible for the mainstreaming of NDRRP to national planning documents such as the National Development Plan, Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Policy and ensure consistency with sectoral policies and plans.
3. Formulation and development of policy papers pertaining to the disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation and work with the Fiji Statistics Office on the collation of key disaster related statistics, including the development of a disaster database.
4. Support policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation and review of existing policies and programmes.
5. Draft and provide technical input into Cabinet and Council Papers, presentations, ministerial statements, parliamentary responses, press releases and speaking notes and provide updates on the implementation of Government National Development Plan initiatives, Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific, Sendai Framework and Sustainable Development Goals.
6. Conduct national consultation on the implementation of Governments Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Policy and provide secretariat support to the National Disaster Management Council.
7. Actively contribute to all corporate requirements of the Ministry, including disaster and emergency operations, planning, budgeting and selection activities where required.
