Director Women (Ministry of Environment & Climate Change)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The position is responsible to the Permanent Secretary for the development, implementation and monitoring of policies that affects women. It also provides policy advice through Cabinet Papers, Information and Discussion papers. It also oversees the operations of the Department to ensure that it is aligned to the Government Priorities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure relevant policies, strategies, programs and activities are developed in line with international laws (UN CEDAW) and implemented through strict control, monitoring and evaluation.

2. Work collaboratively with other Ministries and other key stakeholders to establish well-integrated approaches in Women development.

3. Ensure sustainable democracy and good governance is maintained through gender equality programmes and women development.

4. Maintain working knowledge of significant developments in relation to international laws on Women

5. Develop and maintain relationships and networks with multi-lateral and bilateral international funding agencies, civil society groups to increase visibility of the roles of the Department

6. Provide support and leadership in any structural changes that may take place in the Civil Service

7. Actively contribute to all corporate requirements such as strategic plans, business plans and annual corporate plans, including Budget Planning for every Program administered by the Department, and conceptualize the role of the department in overall global strategy.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience

  1. At least 5 years’ experience in gender and development (the work place, regulation or policy) or a related field
  2. Demonstrated experience liaising with senior staff from different organizations to deliver operational outcomes
  3. Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, preparing cash flow projections and analyzing statistical data
  4. Sound working knowledge regulations and policies in place in relation to women in Fiji.
  5. Sound knowledge of labor laws and applicable legislations and policies in Fiji.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to manage teams in a leadership role
  2. Demonstrated ability to translate strategies into operational goals
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement best practices, think strategically and plan for long term success
  4. Demonstrated ability in initiating research, critical analysis, report writing, monitoring and evaluation
  5. Demonstrated ability to analyse and solve complex problems in relation to daily operations
  6. Demonstrated ability to influence change and reform
