DIRECTOR GENERAL - COUNTER NARCOTICS BUREAU (Ministry of Policing and Communication)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The position is responsible for providing executive leadership and strategic direction to ensure effective enforcement and disruption of illicit drug networks, advising government on narcotics and security issues, overseeing organizational management and reforms, leading investigative and operational functions, and coordinating with domestic and international partners to strengthen counter-narcotic efforts

 

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

1. Provide strategic leadership and oversight to enforce controlled substance laws, disrupt drug trafficking, and lead organizational reforms for a modern, effective CNB.

2. Advise government authorities on narcotics, transnational crime, and security issues to inform policy and enforcement strategies.

3. Oversee investigative and operational functions, including strategic deployment of personnel and resources to dismantle criminal networks and prevent illicit drug use.

4. Coordinate and strengthen partnerships with domestic agencies, international organizations, and foreign governments to facilitate intelligence sharing and joint enforcement efforts.

5. Manage organizational resources, financial administration, and ensure accountability to support effective counter-narcotics operations.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience

  1. 1. Minimum 15 years’ senior leadership experience in law enforcement, intelligence, or public administration.
  2. 2. Proven record of leading complex organizations, strategic reforms, and interagency coordination.
  3. 3. Extensive knowledge of drug enforcement strategies, transnational crime operations, and intelligence-sharing methodologies, combined with a proven track record of leading complex investigations and operational initiatives.
  4. 4. Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership, organizational reform, and interagency coordination at national and international levels within law enforcement, intelligence, or security agencies.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. 1. Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities to guide complex enforcement initiatives.
  2. 2. Excellent communication and advisory skills to liaise effectively with government officials and international partners.
  3. 3. Ability to develop and implement strategic policies and operational plans.
  4. 4. Skilled in managing organizational change, resource allocation, and fostering teamwork across diverse agencies.

 

Additional Information

All applicants for employment in the Ministry of Policing must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the civil service values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be a Fijian Citizen, under the age 60 years, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicants will be required to provide a medical and police clearance, prior to taking up duty as a condition of employment.
