DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL - COUNTER NARCOTICS BUREAU (Ministry of Policing and Communication)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The role exists to support the Director-General in providing overall leadership and governance of CNB. It carries specific responsibility for overseeing operations and corporate services, ensuring organisational effectiveness, and driving the delivery of strategic and operational priorities that strengthen CNB’s performance and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

1. Provide organisational leadership and management to ensure effective governance and performance.

2. Oversee operations and corporate functions to maintain efficiency and service delivery.

3. Implement policies and strategies to achieve CNB’s objectives and priorities.

4. Represent CNB in national and regional forums as delegated by the Director-General.

Knowledge & Experience

  1. 1. Proven track record in organizational leadership and development, including managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving institutional growth.
  2. 2. Experience in policy analysis and implementation, with demonstrated ability to translate strategic priorities into operational outcomes.
  3. 3. Background in high-level communication and representation, including engaging with government, regional bodies, and diverse stakeholders.
  4. 4. Demonstrated commitment to integrity and accountability, with experience in applying governance frameworks, compliance standards, and ethical practices.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. 1. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire, mentor, and build organisational capacity.
  2. 2. Analytical and strategic thinking abilities, capable of evaluating complex policy issues and implementing effective solutions.
  3. 3. Excellent communication and representation skills, including negotiation, advocacy, and presentation at senior forums.
  4. 4. High standards of integrity and accountability, with the ability to uphold transparency, ethical decision-making, and organisational trust

 

Additional Information

All applicants for employment in the Ministry of Policing must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the civil service values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be a Fijian Citizen, under the age 60 years, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicants will be required to provide a medical and police clearance, prior to taking up duty as a condition of employment.
