Deck Watch Rating (The Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services & Transport)

The position supports the Bosun and vessel officers in the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the vessel. 

Key Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will achieve its purpose through the following:

1. Actively contributing in maintaining cleanliness of the vessel and maintaining sea worthiness of the vessel structure;

2. Actively contributing with the loading, discharging and safe storage of cargo;

3. Ensures adherence to safe work standard;

4. Actively contributing with watch duties according to the vessel watch schedules;

5. Timely recordings of required activities; and

6. Actively contribute all corporate requirements of the Ministry where required.

Knowledge & Experience

1. At least 2-3 years’ experience in the Maritime Industry on any seagoing vessel;
2. Knowledge of the Marine Regulations/Acts.
3. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Procedures

Skills & Abilities

1. Excellent communication skills;
2. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively within a team environment;
3. Ability to follow instructions and meet set deadlines with regards to the vessel Preventative Maintenance System (PMS).

Additional Information

Applicants for employment in the Department of Government Shipping Services must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment.
