Network/Security Operations Centre Technician (Ministry of Policing and Communication)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The purpose of the position is to monitor, maintain and protect the Government Network (GOVNET) infrastructure and systems 24/7. The incumbent must effectively respond and resolve incidents related to system performance, availability and security. In addition, the individual must be able to detect, triage and escalate issues, ensuring business continuity and an optimal security posture.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitor GOVNET infrastructure and systems 24/7 to ensure optimal performance and availability.

2. Respond to and troubleshoot network-related incidents and outages and perform routine server and system checks and implement necessary patches and updates when required.

3. Monitor server performance and notify relevant team of any inconsistencies or issues and assist in the configuration and maintenance of servers and network devices.

4. Monitor backup systems and its status and notify relevant technician of any issues encountered.

5. Monitor security systems and logs to detect and respond to potential security threats and investigate and analyse security alerts and incidents.

6. Create and maintain technical documentation for NOC and SOC procedures and manage and prioritize tickets in the service desk system.

7. Collaborate with team members to resolve complex issues and provide regular reports on network performance, security incidents, and system health.

8. Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support as needed

Knowledge & Experience

  1. At least 1-2 years' experience in Network/Security Operations Centre or an IT support role
  2. Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including operating systems and scripting languages
  3. A strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts, attack vectors, and incident response techniques
  4. Familiarity with network and security monitoring tools
  5. Hands-on experience with SIEM/EDR/XDR platforms, firewalls, and IDS/IPS, Microsoft Windows Server and Enterprise Linux would be an advantage

  1. Knowledge and understanding of root cause analysis for effective problem diagnosis and timely solution deployment.
  2. High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  3. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  4. Highly self-motivated and directed with excellent attention to detail
  5. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  6. Able to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Additional Information
