Principal Business Advisory Officer (Investment) (Ministry of Trade, Co-operative, SME and Communications)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The Principal Business Advisory Officer (Investment) position is primarily responsible for developing investment strategies, business advisory and investment initiatives, e-commerce diversification, economic growth, and long-term sustainable returns. The incumbent will also be responsible for identifying, evaluating, structuring, and executing new investment opportunities and providing expert guidance on strategic financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities

1) Develop and implement comprehensive business development and investment strategies to maximize market potential.

2) Monitor and analyze financial market trends, political developments, and macroeconomic factors to identify and recommend investment opportunities.

3) Proactively manage and monitor a portfolio of high-value investments, conducting sector and country reviews and assessing performance.

4) Ensure strict compliance with all relevant financial regulations, governance policies, and internal risk management frameworks.

5) Assist with strengthening Investment Facilitation and aftercare through chairing and servicing the Investment Facilitation Committee to resolve investor constraints in a timely manner.

6) Assist in coordinating actions to improve Fiji’s World Bank B-Ready global ranking and component indicator performance.

7) Assist with KPI monitoring and budget utilisation performance reporting for Investment Fiji and Film Fiji

8) Actively contribute to all corporate requirements of the Ministry, including planning, budgeting and human resources activities, where required.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience

  1. 1) At least 6 years of experience in business advisory service, investment related work and policy development
  2. 2) Sound knowledge of the Fijian business and regulatory environment is essential
  3. 3) Understanding of potential business risks and mitigation measures
  4. 4) Practical and technical knowledge and experience in general principles of project management and quality control
  5. 5) Knowledge and understanding of financial management requirements, including the processing of expenditure and adhering to procurement principles within public sector legislation and policy.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. 1) Ability to provide action-oriented, high-level advice to investors on business development
  2. 2) Effective skills and ability to lead reforms in business development through the application of innovative methodologies
  3. 3) Sound interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal
  4. 4) Demonstrated ability to plan and organise activities and projects
  5. 5) Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
  6. 6) Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational and corporate environment of the organisation.

 

Additional Information

All applicants for employment in the Ministry must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the public service values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be Fijian Citizens, under the age of 60 years, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance, prior to taking up duty.
