Fieldman (Naduruloulou Research Station - 3 & Dreketi Fisheries Station - 1) (Ministry of Fisheries)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The purpose of this position is to carry out and assists the daily operations in the hatchery, including provision of extension and advisory services to the farmers. 

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitor all freshwater aquaculture farms, collect data and record hatchery and aquaculture farm operations.

2. Assist in the provision of extension and advisory services to farmers which includes monitoring of farms, pond construction supervision, site surveys, sampling, training & awareness and harvesting/marketing of farmed fish.

3. Maintain proper upkeep of assets issued and ensure its safe custody.

4. Assist in the Farm development, Station upkeep and maintenance.

5. Contribute to the organization through the provision of quality customer services, participating in initiatives to promote teamwork and employee health, safety and wellbeing and participation in selection panel

Knowledge & Experience

  1. At least 6 to 12 months of work experience in Fisheries operations or management.
  2. Experience in fish hatchery operations, including aquaculture farm management
  3. Experience in farm extension work
  4. Understanding of Fijian Customs, traditions and protocols, the Fijian Constitution [2013] and applicable laws of Fiji

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. Ability to communicate and tactfully deal with people within the required legislative and policy framework
  2. Ability to work cooperatively within a team environment
  3. Experience and proven ability to work at sea or outdoors
  4. High organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
  5. Service oriented approach with a commitment to supporting the operational corporate environment of the Ministry

 

Additional Information

Applicants for employment must be of good character, with a background that demonstrates their commitment to the civil service values contained in the Fijian Constitution. Applicants must also be Fijian Citizens, under age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The selected applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance prior to taking up the duty.
