Clerical Officer - Accounts (Ministry of Fisheries)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The position is responsible for providing financial, administrative services in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations particularly in relation to procurement, payments and revenue collection, vehicle Management and imprest.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure that all Government Wage Earners Staffs timesheets are submitted with corresponding leave for wages input to Headquarters.

2. Release and replenishment of imprest based on staff request and upon endorsement of Manager Western.

3. Raising Purchases Orders received from Manager Western and Officer in charge for Western Division.

4. Ensure that revenue is collected, receipted and lodged on a timely basis to the nearest bank with the timely submission of cash sheets to headquarters for Ministry of Economy’s timely report on revenue.

5. Timely verification of seven revenue collecting stations and providing revenue report with collector’s chart to Manager West.

6. Undertake extra responsibilities from Principal Account Officer and Principal Fisheries Officer, West.

Knowledge & Experience

  1. 1. At least 1 year of relevant work experience in a similar field
  2. 2. Understanding of financial and administrative legislation, regulations, policies and procedures

Skills & Abilities

  1. 1. Highly detail oriented and organized in work
  2. 2. Ability to meet assigned deadlines
  3. 3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  4. 4. Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives
  5. 5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience using BISAN
  6. 6. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, problem solving, and results

Additional Information

Applicants for employment in the Ministry of Fisheries must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60 in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment.
