Assistant Stores (Ministry of Agriculture)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure proper organizing, planning and controlling for the movement of stock items kept in Stores in accordance with Stores and Finance Regulations. 

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

1. Attend to the timely procurement of items requested to support the effective and efficient delivery of Ministry operations.

2. Facilitate obtaining quotations, preparing orders, procurement of quality goods and proper dispatch.

3. Update all Stores Records (Inventory, registers and databases) regularly in particular expendable and non-expandable items in accordance with Procurement regulations.

4. Organise the operation of stores, proper labels and maintain stock re-order level to effectively support operations of the Station.

5. Maintain the cleanliness of Stores at all times and ensure that stock, chemicals, consumables, equipment, tools, fuel, stationery are properly displayed

6. Serve politely and exhibit occupational health & safety to support the operations of the Ministry optimally.

7. Actively contribute to all corporate requirements of the Ministry ad hoc requests from Senior Executive Management, Ministerial Events and Functions, business process improvements

(smart work methods) where required.

Knowledge & Experience

  1. At least 1 year relevant work experience.
  2. Proven working knowledge of Stores and procurement functions.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in maintaining proper records documentations.
  4. Good knowledge of farming tools, machineries and equipments.
  5. Demonstrated experience to work in physically demanding situations.
  6. Basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety and applicable laws of Fiji.

Skills & Abilities

  1. Good oral and written communication skills.
  2. Good computing skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to manage time, able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
  4. Demonstrated ability to provide basic administrative and logistics support in a work environment.
  5. Ability to adhere and follow instructions as provided.
  6. Proven self- starter, an effective team player with an ability to provide service oriented approach to support the operations of the Ministry.

Additional Information

Applicants for employment must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment for substantive appointment.
