Machine Operator (Pool Recruitment) (Ministry of Agriculture)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a safe driving, proper operation of tractors and heavy machineries in compliance with relevant transport regulations and policies.

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:

1. Drive all assigned heavy machineries (Diggers, Tractors, Bulldozers, Low Loaders, Excavators, Forklifts, etc) skilfully at all times.

2. Attend to daily inspection, timely servicing, proper maintenance and care of all assigned heavy fleets.

3. Consult Locality Technical Officers and attend to land preparation development to support planned activities.

4. Record all authorized runs, maintenance, mileage and fuel consumption and accidents on time as per requirements in the relevant transport policy.

5. Maintain cleanliness of assigned heavy machinery and ensure its best running conditions for land preparation work.

6. Serve politely, exhibit occupational health & safety and strictly adhere to all road traffic laws and regulations to support the operations of the Ministry optimally.

7. Actively contribute to all corporate requirements of the Ministry ad hoc requests from Senior Executive Management, Ministerial Events and Functions, business process improvements (smart work methods) where required.

 

 

Knowledge & Experience

  1. At least 2 to 3 years relevant work experience of operating heavy machineries with no adverse records.
  2. Proven working knowledge of Vehicle/Transport management functions
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in automotive engineering for vehicles
  4. Demonstrated experience to work long hours in physically demanding situations
  5. Proficient and sound knowledge of the Fiji driving code rules, basic understanding of Occupational Health & Safety and applicable laws of Fiji.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. Good oral and written communication skills.
  2. Demonstrated good driving skills with the ability to manage time and routes for efficient transportation.
  3. Demonstrated abilities to conduct basic vehicle maintenance, provide basic administrative and logistics support in a work environment.
  4. Possess a pro-active and professional attitude, able to prioritize and multi- task to complete work in a timely manner with high integrity.
  5. Proven self- starter and an effective team player to meet tight deadlines in a working environment
  6. Service oriented approach with a commitment to support the operational/corporate environment of the organization.

 

Additional Information

Applicants for employment must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment for substantive appointment.
