Senior Surveyor (Re - advertised) (Ministry of Agriculture)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The position is responsible to effectively and efficiently lead and manage land and engineering survey activities to support the operations of the Division. 

Key Responsibilities

The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties;

1. Provide strategic leadership and supervision of the Survey Unit by developing and executing work plans, mentoring staff, and promoting a culture of performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

2. Provide accurate, reliable, and compliance of survey data by leading data analysis, validating spatial features and design plans, and conducting quality assurance checks.

3. Deliver timely and high-quality survey outputs to support infrastructure, land use planning, and development initiatives.

4. Define project scopes, lead technical studies, and implement modern survey methodologies and technologies to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

5. Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders, including landowning and fishing communities, to address boundary-related issues and support Ministry operations.

6. Prepare and submit timely reports, and ensure the proper maintenance, security, and archiving of survey data and plans to support transparency and informed decision-making.

7. Actively contribute to corporate objectives, support change management initiatives, and comply with relevant financial, human resource, and policy frameworks while upholding professional standards and integrity.

 

 

 

Knowledge & Experience

  1. 1. At least 7 to 8 years relevant work experience of which three (3) years in a similar supervisory position or in a position equivalent in nature.
  2. 2. Wide and proven experience in land surveying with very good knowledge of Survey specifications and standards
  3. 3. Knowledge of Surveyors Act, Surveyors Regulations, Notice to Surveyors and other relevant legislations.
  4. 4. Proven working knowledge on project and capital management.

 

Skills & Abilities

  1. 1. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability communicate with diverse workforce.
  2. 2. Strong analytic and system thing necessary to interpret data, communicate goals and strategy, as improve progressively and extensively.
  3. 3. Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams to meet deadlines and goals, and to supervise and motivate staff from different backgrounds and experience;
  4. 4. Good judgment, initiative, high sense of responsibility, tact and discretion, with sensitivity to different cultures.
  5. 5. Ability to priorities to meet strict deadlines.
  6. 6. Proficient Computer skills with the capacity to utilise tools and programs to support the operations
  7. 7. Service oriented approach, with a commitment to supporting the operational/corporate environment of the organization.

 

Additional Information

Applicants for employment must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment for substantive appointment.
