The position is responsible to successfully provide key strategic coordination and policy advice with the timely production, analysis and dissemination of high – agricultural statistics in accordance with established statistical methodologies and standards to support the Agriculture sector.
The position will achieve its purpose through the following key duties:
1. Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Agriculture and Rural Statistics Unit, including staff supervision, planning, budgeting, and contribution to organizational change and policy direction.
2. Assist the Chief Agriculture Economist in calculating and determining key economic and social indicators relevant to the agriculture crop and livestock sectors.
3. Plan, prepare and execute the efficient, timely, and cost-effective agricultural censuses/surveys.
4. Identify, analyze, and disseminate agricultural statistical data in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with established standards and addressing stakeholder needs.
5. Provide timely analysis, compilation and dissemination of high quality agriculture statistics, reporting of agricultural productions and trade statistics.
6. Support the development of key economic and social indicators and prepare strategic policy papers, briefs, and high-level advice to inform government decisions and agreements.
7. Maintain strong engagement and consultation with key stakeholders in agricultural statistics.
8. Coordinate submission of relevant reports, planning documents, maintain statistical databases, returns and supervision of staff as required.
9. Actively contribute to corporate outcomes, undertake additional responsibilities as when required by Senior Management, foster change management, follows financial and human resource management guidelines, supervision of staff, budgeting, training and awareness, planning, provide policy advice and regulations, principles, and uphold integrity and standards in all aspects of work.
Applicants for employment must be Fijian Citizens, under Age 60, in sound health, with a clear police record. The successful applicant will be required to provide a medical certificate and police clearance as a condition of employment for substantive appointment.
