Grounds Attendant

Plantation Island Resort is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, and environmentally conscious Grounds Attendant to assist in maintaining the resort’s gardens, landscapes, pathways, and outdoor areas to the highest standards. This role is responsible for ensuring the resort grounds remain clean, safe, attractive, and well-presented, contributing to an exceptional guest experience and preserving the natural beauty of Plantation Island Resort.

The Grounds Attendant will be responsible for carrying out routine landscaping and gardening tasks, including mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning plants, watering gardens, planting vegetation, and maintaining flower beds and green spaces. The successful candidate will also assist with general grounds maintenance, litter collection, beach and pathway cleaning, waste management, and the upkeep of outdoor recreational and public areas. The role requires the safe operation and basic maintenance of gardening equipment and tools, identification and reporting of maintenance concerns, and adherence to workplace health, safety, and environmental standards. Working closely with the Grounds Supervisor and Engineering team, the Grounds Attendant plays an important role in maintaining the resort’s tropical environment, enhancing curb appeal, and ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all guests visiting Plantation Island Resort.

Key Responsibilities:

• Complete weed eradication and disease/pest control using environmentally acceptable methods and following company policy and procedure
• Complete grass cutting and trimming tasks
• Maintain and clean the Grounds workshop and storage areas on a regular basis
• Rake and tidy garden or beach areas as allocated
• Prepare new garden areas including soil tilling, planting and watering
• Harvest seedlings and other plants from nursery and growing areas
• De-frond and de-nut coconut trees, following company safety procedures
• Complete pruning tasks as allocated
• Beautify resort or hotel grounds by transplanting, replanting, trimming and pruning
• Water garden areas as directed
• Gather fallen dry coconuts and other fallen branches, fronds etc and dispose of in correct area
• Keep pathways clean by sweeping daily
• Understand and identify pests and diseases, symptoms and how to control them
• Maintain gardening tools by keeping them clean, in good working order and safe to use
• Take care when digging to avoid damage and destruction to underground pipes and line
• Ensure work areas and equipment/tools used are well maintained, cleaned and stocked/stored as required to minimise loss/defects
• Ensure tools and work area are secured while on scheduled breaks during your shift, including the use of signs or barriers where necessary
• Wear personal protective equipment and supplied uniforms and use equipment/tools correctly at all times while at work to avoid risk/accidents to yourself, colleagues, contractors and our guests
• Complete manual tasks using safe lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling techniques to prevent injury
• Any other reasonable tasks assigned to you by your supervisor or manager

• Ability to complete manual labouring tasks such as digging, lifting, planting, grass cutting
• Demonstrates efficient work practices and is able to complete tasks during allocated timeframe
• Follows safe work practices
• Can work with minimal supervision
• An understanding of landscaping or trees/plants and shrubs is useful
