The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Navutu Depot and will report to the Manager Solar Development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the identification, assessment and development of utility-scale, distributed and hybrid solar energy projects from concept through commissioning;
- Support preliminary site assessments, including solar resource, land availability, access, topography, drainage, geotechnical constraints, grid proximity and environmental considerations;
- Assist in preparing concept designs, layouts, technical specifications and design reviews for photovoltaic systems, balance-of-system equipment, energy storage interfaces and associated civil and electrical works;
- Undertake engineering calculations and technical analyses under supervision, including preliminary energy-yield estimates, equipment sizing, cable and protection considerations, losses and performance assumptions;
- Support grid-connection assessments and coordinate technical inputs with relevant EFL teams to ensure proposed projects comply with applicable network, safety and operational requirements;
- Prepare scopes of work, bills of quantities, cost estimates, tender documentation and technical evaluation inputs for procurement of consultants, contractors, equipment and services;
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, risk tracking, progress reporting, document control and maintenance of accurate technical and commercial project records;
- Coordinate with internal SBAs, Government agencies, landowners, communities, consultants, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to support surveys, approvals, permits and project delivery;
- Monitor construction activities and verify that workmanship, materials, quantities and progress comply with approved drawings, specifications, contracts, quality requirements and agreed programmes;
- Assist with inspections, quality assurance, testing, commissioning, defect rectification, handover and close-out of solar projects, including review of as-built drawings, manuals and test records;
- Support performance monitoring and analysis of commissioned solar assets, investigate variances and contribute to recommendations that improve generation, reliability and lifecycle value;
- Apply EFL’s occupational health and safety, environmental, quality, risk and compliance requirements during office and site-based activities, and promptly report hazards, incidents and non-conformances;
- Travel to EFL installations and project sites throughout Fiji and, where required, remain away from the base station for project activities; and
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager Solar Developments or the General Manager Special Projects.
Key Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering from a recognized university;
- Sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles and a demonstrated interest in solar photovoltaic systems, renewable energy development and power systems;
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, technical data and relevant standards, and to prepare clear calculations and technical reports under supervision;
- Competence in standard office applications; exposure to engineering design, drafting, geographic information, solar modelling or project-scheduling software will be an advantage;
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning and organisational skills, with attention to accuracy, safety, quality and timely delivery;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders;
- Membership of, or eligibility for graduate membership with, a recognised professional engineering body;
- Ability and willingness to undertake fieldwork, work safely around construction and electrical environments, travel throughout Fiji and remain away from the base station when required;
- A valid non-provisional driving licence; and
- Commitment to continuously living EFL’s values and maintaining EFL’s reputation and professional image.
