GENERAL MANAGER OPERATIONS

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Summary of Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

  • Set strategic direction and operational plans for retail, postal, sales & marketing, supply chain, EMS and international mail of exchange aligned with corporate strategy and stakeholder expectations.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational performance to meet service standards, SLAs, regulatory compliance, and customer experience objectives.
  • Drive revenue growth and margin improvement through retail optimisation, product and service development, pricing, and commercial partnerships.
  • Lead operational excellence initiatives: process improvement, automation, digitisation, route optimisation, and cost control.
  • Ensure secure, efficient international mail handling and compliance with Universal Postal Union (UPU) rules, customs requirements and bilateral agreements.
  • Manage risk, safety and security in all operations, including workplace health and safety, mail security, and business continuity planning.
  • Develop and manage annual operational budgets, capital expenditure proposals, and cost control programs.
  • Lead, develop and retain high-performing operational teams; build a culture of customer service, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company in stakeholder engagements (government agencies, customs, UPU, freight/airline partners, major customers) and negotiate service agreements.
  • Monitor KPIs and produce regular operational performance reports for the CEO and Board as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, Commerce, Law, or related field.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • At least 10 years’ progressive management experience in operations, logistics, postal services, courier services, retail networks, or a related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget control, service delivery, process improvement, and staff leadership.
  • Knowledge of postal regulations, EMS operations, supply chain management, and customer service management.
  • Experience working with government stakeholders, regulators, customs, and external service partners is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as operational issues and stakeholder meetings require.
