ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN – TEST CENTER (WESTERN)

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The position will be based at the Energy Fiji Limited’s Navutu Depot and will report to the Manager Health and Safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Test Centre

    • To assist and ensure timely and safe testing of live line tools and equipment including live line truck according to international standards.
    • To assist and ensure timely and safe testing rubber insulated gloves and any other HV/LV equipment according to international standards.
    • Assist in ensuring the safe testing procedures as per standard specifications, according to the work procedures / instructions within the specified time frame, implement preventative initiatives and implement initiative on proper caring and storage of rubber gloves and sleeves;
    • Enter details of the tested equipment into Pay Global and the subsequent test results ;
    • Upkeep of Test Centre to approved and latest standard; 
    • Assist in the development of new test procedures to meet internal test requirements
    • Ability to learn and execute fundamental test methods and procedures;
    • Provides accurate interpretation of test requests, initiates and executes testing, evaluates and reports results and subsequent audit results. 
    • Participates on intra- and inter-departmental teams to improve existing processes and/or develop new process and test methods also Learn and understand test standards and test procedures;
    • Contributing to the health, safety and environmental running of the laboratories;
    • Operation of equipment as per instructions.- Equipment include Dielectric Tester, HV Test sets or any other testing and measuring equipment.
    • Communicate orally and in writing with Engineers, Mangers and staff members after test has been conducted on the PPE, Tools and equipment.
    • Perform inspection and testing on electrical components monthly and provide report to TO/Manager Training.
    • Assist in maintenance, cleaning, calibration and adjustments of equipment.
    • Perform in pre and post-test sequence assembly and disassembly on all voltage classes
    • Assist in preparing Technical Reports summarizing findings, may recommend solutions to technical problems during and after Testing.
    • Ensure effective implementation of risk assessment, hazard identification, safety auditing in workplace, recommend appropriate control measures as required;
    • Assist in developing and implementation of relevant training programs for training of EFL personal and contractors;
    • Assist in conducting safety awareness programs for all the users;
    • Coach and provide expertise to EFL staff on all aspects of Workplace Health and Safety.
    • Auditing of tools and equipment in compliance with EFL and international standards;
    • Compliance of safe work practice and procedures in accordance with EFL standards;
    • Assist in reviewing of  safe work procedures ;
    • Assist in carrying out work site inspection to ensure compliance with EFL safe work procedures and standards on Gloves, tools and equipment’s.
    • Carry out any other task allocated by the Technical Officer or Manager Training.

Key Requirements:

    • The candidate must have a Diploma in Electrical / Electronic from a recognized Tertiary Institute.
    • Authorized in Category A, B, C and F with at least three (3) years of relevant work experience within EFL will be an added advantage.
    • The candidate must have outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with a right attitude, team player, self-motivated and professional work ethic;
    • A Valid Wireman’s License will be an added advantage.
    • A valid Group 2 (not provisional) driver’s license is mandatory.
