The Opportunity

The School invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and highly motivated individuals for the position of Assistant Lecturer/ Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality Management. The role will require the successful candidate to have extensive teaching experience and be proactive in the management, coordination, development, curriculum design and delivery of new and existing courses and programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The discipline has established strong links with the tourism and hospitality industry, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to further strengthen these partnerships, particularly within the events industry and the cruise ship industries

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

For the appointment at Assistant Lecturer Level;

  • a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) in Tourism and/or Hospitality Management or a relevant discipline; or
  • in exceptional cases, to meet particular disciplinary requirements in line with international standards, a relevant postgraduate qualification or professional qualification with relevant industry or research experience.

For the appointment at Lecturer Level;

  • a PhD in Tourism and/or Hospitality Management or relevant discipline with relevant tertiary teaching and/or research experience; or
  • in exceptional cases, a Master’s degree or professional qualification with relevant teaching experience or relevant industry/professional experience or a significant research profile.

Other skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the position:

  • The appointee shall have the ability to coordinate, supervise, and support postgraduate students in their academic and research activities;
  • Must have a strong research profile, evidenced by publications in ranked journals with quality of research (QoR);
  • Knowledge of sustainable tourism, tourism entrepreneurship and innovation, tourism and hospitality management, event management, cruise tourism, and strategic hospitality management would be an advantage;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the tourism and hospitality industry within the South Pacific region, including an understanding of its opportunities, challenges, and emerging trends, would be highly desirable.

The position is available for a term of five years and may be renewed by mutual agreement. 

Salary Range

  • Assistant Lecturer: FJ$71,212 to FJ$85,454 per annum. 
  • Lecturer: FJ$90,493 to FJ$119,068 per annum.
