The Opportunity

The Student Learning Specialist (SLS) plays a key role in supporting students in their pursuit of academic excellence. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of high-quality academic and study skills programmes that empower students to succeed in tertiary education. The SLS ensures inclusive, accessible, and engaging learning support across all delivery modes-Face-to-Face, Print, Blended, and Online-across USP's campuses and learning centres.

The SLS programmes ensure that all students are better equipped to handle tertiary studies and get a step closer to their academic goal.

The Student Learning Specialist will:

  • Prepare, implement, manage, facilitate and evaluate the academic and study skills activities and resources for the Student Learning Support section of the University of the South Pacific, ensuring high quality and innovative learning support is delivered to students studying via Face-to-Face, Print, Blended and Online learners at USP’s various campuses and centres;
  • Work collaboratively with academic and professional staff across the University to support student learning, enhance the student experience and improve student retention and success.

 

The Person we Seek

To be considered for this positio

  • A degree and postgraduate qualifications in Education, Literature/Applied Linguistics/ Linguistics/Communication, Government, Development, International Affairs, Law, Social Sciences (Psychology, Social Work, History, Sociology, Gender Studies and Pacific Policing) or in a relevant discipline; and
  • Four (4) years of relevant experience and management expertise;
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in a tertiary education setting;
  • Experience in giving academic support to students from diverse learning backgrounds and abilities;
  • Experience in working with learners in the Pacific region;
  • Experience in PASS programme;
  • Experience in designing relevant learning materials;
  • Experience in project management for the Senior Peer Mentoring programme;
  • Experience in carrying out multiple activities within tight deadlines;
  • A strong customer service orientation - for Drop-in and Schools collaboration;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Computer literate;
  • Willingness to participate in the general activities of the University; and
  • A Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching or equivalent or working towards one would be desirable.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.

Salary Range

  • FJ $61,627.79 to FJ $75,265.67 per annum
