Head of Retail

Universal Electronics is seeking a commercially driven, hands-on Head of Retail to lead and grow our retail store network across Fiji.

Established in 1978, Universal Electronics is one of Fiji’s trusted names in electronics, technology, security, power, solar, tools, components, and related solutions. Through our valued partnership with Jaycar, we provide customers with access to a broad range of quality electronics, components, tools, power products, networking solutions, solar products, and technology accessories, supported by practical advice and strong product knowledge.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who can drive sales growth, lift store standards, improve merchandising, build high-performing teams, and create a consistent, professional customer experience across every Universal Electronics outlet.

We are looking for a retail leader who is commercially sharp, disciplined, energetic, and comfortable leading from the shop floor — not just from behind a desk.

About the Role

As Head of Retail, you will be responsible for the overall performance, standards, and leadership of our retail stores.

Your focus will be to grow sales, improve store presentation, strengthen staff accountability, ensure critical stock is always available, and deliver a better customer experience across all locations.

You will work closely with the business directors, operations, purchasing, accounts, marketing, and store teams to ensure our retail business is well run, well stocked, and strongly positioned for growth.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Growth & Store Performance

  • Drive sales growth across all retail outlets.

  • Set and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales targets.

  • Review store performance and take action where results are below expectations.

  • Improve customer conversion, average transaction value, and repeat business.

  • Grow key categories including electronics, security, power, solar, networking, tools, cables, components, accessories, and Jaycar product ranges.

  • Identify new retail opportunities, promotions, product gaps, and customer needs.

Store Standards & Merchandising

  • Ensure all stores are clean, organised, well-presented, and professionally merchandised.

  • Maintain consistent store standards across every location.

  • Improve displays, signage, pricing, ticketing, and product visibility.

  • Ensure top-selling, high-margin, and critical stock items are easy for customers to find.

  • Create a stronger in-store experience that encourages customers to browse, ask questions, and buy.

  • Conduct regular store audits and follow up on agreed actions.

People Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and develop store managers and retail staff.

  • Build a disciplined, positive, and performance-driven retail culture.

  • Set clear expectations for customer service, sales behaviour, product knowledge, store standards, and accountability.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.

  • Hold teams accountable for results, attendance, presentation, and customer service.

  • Develop future retail leaders within the business.

Customer Experience

  • Ensure every customer receives helpful, professional, and knowledgeable service.

  • Train staff to actively engage customers and recommend the right solutions.

  • Build strong product knowledge across the retail team, especially across computers, networking, electronics, components, power, solar, tools, security, and Jaycar ranges.

  • Resolve customer issues quickly and professionally.

  • Support trade, B2B, and repeat customers where required.

  • Build a culture where customers feel welcomed, respected, and confident buying from Universal Electronics.

Stock, Inventory & Loss Prevention

  • Work closely with purchasing and operations to ensure critical stock is always available.

  • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and overstocked items.

  • Support stocktakes, cycle counts, and inventory controls.

  • Ensure products are correctly labelled, priced, displayed, and secured.

  • Reduce stock loss through strong processes, staff accountability, and regular checks.

  • Provide feedback on what is selling, what is not moving, and what customers are asking for.

Promotions, Marketing & Local Execution

  • Execute promotions and campaigns across all stores.

  • Ensure promotional stock, signage, pricing, displays, and staff briefings are ready before launch.

  • Support social media, local store marketing, and customer engagement activity.

  • Provide market feedback on competitors, customer demand, pricing, and product trends.

  • Work with the team to grow awareness of Universal Electronics and Jaycar product categories.

About You

You are a practical retail leader who knows how to get results through people, standards, discipline, and execution.

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, Marketing, Commerce, Management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in retail leadership, ideally managing multiple stores or a large retail operation.

  • A strong interest in computers, networking, electronics, solar, power solutions, tools, and technology products.

  • Strong sales leadership and commercial thinking.

  • Excellent understanding of store operations, merchandising, stock control, and customer service.

  • Ability to coach, motivate, and hold teams accountable.

  • Confidence using sales reports, stock reports, and KPIs to improve performance.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and follow-through.

  • A hands-on leadership style with regular store presence.

  • Strong attention to detail and pride in store standards.

  • Experience in electronics, hardware, technology, electrical, trade, security, solar, networking, or similar retail categories will be highly regarded.
