Job Summary
Beyond Essential Systems (BES) is seeking an International IT Project Officer to support the technical components of implementation and ongoing use of Tamanu, an electronic health record (EHR), in Tuvalu. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term contract based in Funafuti, Tuvalu. This role is open to Fiji nationals only.
The role focuses on supporting the technical setup and maintenance of the IT environment within the Tuvalu Ministry of Health, Social Welfare and Gender Affairs (MoHSW) to ensure optimal functioning of Tamanu. There is a strong focus on working collaboratively with and capacity-strengthening local IT staff to ensure long-term system maintenance and confidence troubleshooting.
The position will work closely with IT staff, hospital management, and the BES project delivery and technical teams to ensure smooth system operation and high-quality health information management.

About the role
BES is supporting the rollout and ongoing use of Tamanu across health services in Tuvalu. There is a strong need for on-the-ground support to ensure smooth system functionality and strengthen local IT capacity. You will be supported by our ICT Infrastructure Support Officer (based in Suva, Fiji), and work closely with the Tamanu Project Manager and Project Officers based in Funafuti.
This role requires close collaboration with IT teams, Princess Margaret Hospital stakeholders, and the BES project delivery and technical teams. Some local travel may be required.
The position is full-time (40 hours per week), with leave and entitlements provided in line with Fiji employment regulations. Required equipment, including a laptop, will be provided.
Role description
The International IT Project Officer will support the technical setup and maintenance of the IT environment within the Tuvalu Ministry of Health, Social Welfare and Gender Affairs (MoHSW) to ensure optimal functioning of Tamanu. There is a strong focus on working collaboratively with and capacity-strengthening local IT staff to ensure long-term system maintenance and confidence troubleshooting.
Key responsibilities
Support setup and maintenance of ICT infrastructure and hardware, including PCs, servers, UPS, other devices, structured cabling, WiFi access points, and network connectivity.
Provide first-line support for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, and escalate to BES teams where required.
Assist in maintaining operational uptime for Tamanu, and support restoration of services following outages or system interruptions.
Monitor, respond to, and document ICT incidents and outages in coordination with MoHSW ICT staff.
Ensure backup processes are running and report anomalies to BES.
Work collaboratively with local MoHSW IT staff to facilitate capacity-strengthening in long-term maintenance of Tamanu and supporting infrastructure.
Attend regular project meetings, contribute to reports, and provide updates on Tamanu usage with BES and MoHSW teams.
Ensure compliance with policies (including Child Protection and Data Protection) and fiduciary responsibilities in the carrying out of contracts.
Other responsibilities as reasonably requested by supervisors.
Selection criteria
Qualifications
Diploma or Certificate (Level 5 or higher) in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience
3-5 years’ experience implementing or providing IT support for large-scale digital systems.
Experience with digital systems in a health environment is highly desirable.
Any of the following would be an advantage:
Exposure to server environments (Windows/Linux)
Basic understanding of networking, cabling, and WiFi systems
Familiarity with UPS/power continuity environments
Basic understanding of cloud-hosted systems (conceptual awareness only)
