Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

To provide high quality Administration assistance support to the Kauwai Youth Restoration Service (boys home) Manager. To assist in providing support and relief the Kauwai Youth Restoration Service (boys home) Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

1. Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate records including:
    • Resident attendance and daily registers
    • Staff rosters and leave records
    • Programme activity logs and reports
  • Assist with filing, documentation, and data entry (manual and/or digital)
  • Support basic financial administration such as:
    • Petty cash records
    • Purchase orders and receipts
    • Stock and inventory tracking
  • Prepare simple reports as requested by the Manager
  • Assist with coordination of meetings, appointments, and programme schedules
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information
2. Cooking and Kitchen Duties
  • Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious meals for youth according to set menus and budget
  • Prepare meals for special events, visitors, or programmes when required
  • Ensure food is prepared and served on time
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas
  • Safely store food and manage kitchen supplies
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages
  • Follow food safety and health regulations at all times

 3. Care and Support Environment

  • Model positive behaviour and professionalism when interacting with young people
  • Support a respectful, structured, and caring environment
  • Work collaboratively with programme staff to support residents’ routines
  • Be alert to any welfare concerns and report to the Manager appropriately

 4. Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Follow KYRS and Salvation Army policies and procedures
  • Maintain a safe working environment, including safe food handling practices
  • Support child/youth safeguarding principles
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and supervision as required

Qualifications and Experience in the following are essential:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Experience in cooking for groups or institutions (e.g. hostels, schools, camps, care homes)
  • Basic administrative or office support experience
  • Ability to work with vulnerable youth in a residential setting

Desirable:

  • Certificate or training in food preparation, hospitality, or administration
  • Experience working with NGOs, churches, or community programmes
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (Word, Excel, or similar)
