Opex Accountant

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Opex Accountant to join our Finance Team at the Nabua office, reporting to the Financial Controller – Tonga. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!

This role will be based in Fiji and is responsible to maintain proper accountability of all OPEX functions and provide business support to Digicel Tonga Ltd.

Core responsibilities:  

  • Review and approve OPEX PO’s in workplace twice daily. Ensure that no PO’s are approved without budget. Ensure PO Approval Timetable is always followed.
  • Working with FC to improve process controls, cost optimization and initiatives for the market.
  • Preparing the operating expenditure budget for the company. Linking and loading the budget in the respective GL codes into the Management Reporter Software in Great Plains and FCCS.
  • Preparing the cash flow actuals for the month providing commentaries for the entire cash flow operating, investing and financial activities including movements in creditors, stock, debtors, provisioning and CAPEX.
  • Preparing the cash flow forecast for the remaining months after actuals are closed, forecasting on net cash flow from Operating, Investing and Financing activities and the closing cash flow.
  • Analyse the Foreign Exchange transactions during the month and prepare FX Analysis on the nature of transactions and the amounts involved.
  • Preparing Opex Trackers twice a week to achieve forecasted numbers for the month.
  • Maintaining site leases, store rent, expatriate house rent and other property on leases to comply with IFRS policies.
  • Ensure accurate and policy-compliant treatment of prepayments and accruals, maintaining required schedules and improving posting accuracy.
  • GL reconciliations – with standards that comply and maintaining recs in a presentable manner for review purpose.
  • Maintaining lease schedules to avoid delays in lease payments.
  • Reviewing and maintaining Open PO listings up to date (Ensuring open POs are reviewed and closed within 30 days, except where genuine circumstances apply).
  • Financial Risk Management - financial year reporting’s.
  • Respond to finance related queries from internal/external stakeholders.
  • Monitor monthly working capital requirements for the business.
  • Review commission files as per payout structure
  • Ensuring your financial years KPI are on track to achieve your assigned goals and for assessment purpose.
  • Assist in internal and external audit during the year and financial year end.
  • Ad hoc duties assigned by FC or relieving your colleagues in their absence.
  • Identifying improvements in the business process, financial reporting and internal control for the continuous growth and smooth running of the business.

Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with finance ERP systems preferably Workplace and Great Plains
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office with advanced Microsoft excel and PowerPoint skills
  • CPA/CA or equivalent membership advantageous but not necessary
  • Highly organized and efficient
