Position Description
Position Title: Underground survey
Department: Technical services
Reports to: Sr. Surveyor / Chief Engineer
Specific Responsibilities:
The Underground Survey reports directly to Sr. Surveyor on the daily tasks associated with production
Duties include but are not limited to:
· Attend shift briefing and identifies work to be undertaken, attends safety briefing.
· Ensure work areas are safe to work in.
· Sets up survey points and equipment.
· Ensure all safety procedures are followed.
· Ensures all surveying equipment's are properly maintained and calibrated.
· Assist the Surveyor in identify to miners, lines and gradient to take for development work.
· Assist the Surveyor in identify location, lines, angle and depth of open cast drilling and exploration drilling activities.
· Receive and act on instructions from the Sr. Surveyor
· Calculate level, distance, bearings, volume and area of work undertaken in mining areas ensuring all figures / calculations are up to date and accurate.
· Calculate underground and surface traverse along with pickup which has to be daily updated in the master files in Deswik .
· Issue grade chain to miners for vent rise, ore pass, etc.
· Undertake project work as identified by Surveyor
· Carry-out mid month check of areas mined.
· Carry-out month-end pickup of all areas mined for the month and prepares stoping and development summary report.
· Assist the Surveyor in the preparation of new working plans and sections when required for my personnel.
· Set-out drill holes proposed by geologists and carryout survey once holes have been completed then issue drill hole cards to geologists.
· Assist Surveyor with design of underground workings and issue design proposal for approval by relevant heads of dept. (mine, ventilation and technical services)
· Depletions to be digitized from month end pick ups and then given to the Surveyor to save in the master file Deswik sure that all survey work carried out should be in accordance with the survey standards
· Any other duties as and when delegated by Sr. Surveyor; or Chief Engineer.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
· At least Form 6 level of education and Tertiary qualification in surveying
· Computer literate, conversant with survey software
