The Role
Pepper Advantage Hub (Fiji) is seeking three Credit Assessors to join our team. The Credit Assessor will be responsible for making fair, consistent, and timely lending assessments on applications submitted by UK brokers, ensuring the quality of the loan book is maintained while providing brokers with clear and timely outcomes.
The role sits between broker submission and loan offer, ensuring that all required documentation is complete and assessing applications against the lending policy and the FCA’s responsible lending requirements. All final credit decisions will be made by the Head of Credit.
Operating within a broker-led origination model, the role plays a key part in maintaining broker confidence and supporting business growth through accurate assessments, efficient processing, and clear communication.
Key Responsibilities
- You are accountable for quality, speed and documentation.
- Assess applications. Underwrite broker-submitted cases against lending policy, reviewing income, expenditure, affordability, credit history, security and loan purpose.
- Verify and validate. Check identity, income and supporting documents, identify inconsistencies and potential fraud, and refer concerns to the fraud or financial crime team.
- Stakeholder Engagement. Liaise with mortgage brokers, sales teams, and applicants to clarify financial details and resolve processing queries.
- Use bureau and decisioning data. Interpret credit reports from the UK credit reference agencies, scorecards and automated decision outputs, and apply judgement to exceptions.
- Assess the security. Review valuations and judge the suitability, marketability and any restrictions on the property.
- Work with brokers. Give timely, specific feedback on conditions, queries, build strong relationships with brokers and distributors, and coach them on submission quality.
- Meet service levels. Decide cases within agreed turnaround times, prioritise by SLA and complexity, and flag backlogs early.
- Keep files audit-ready. Maintain complete case records and support QA, internal audit and regulatory information requests.
- Improve the process. Feed trends in broker quality, declines, policy friction and fraud patterns back to Credit, Distribution and Product.
- Every decision must meet FCA responsible lending and fair treatment standards as well as the firm's own lending policy.
- Apply lending policy and credit risk appetite consistently
- Assess affordability and creditworthiness in line with the FCA rules that apply to the product
- Support good customer outcomes under the FCA's Consumer Duty
- Recognise and respond appropriately to vulnerable customers
- Follow the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 and the firm's AML, KYC and sanctions procedures, and report suspicions as the policy requires.
