Cable Technician

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role: 

The Cable Technician I is responsible for the installation of cat 3 cables and structured cabling which includes overall upgrades, maintenance and repair of all internal communication cables and structured cabling, Cable Distribution Frames. Repair and maintenance of aerials, RF transmission cable, external and internal communications cables and is required to have appreciation on the principles of networks and connect telephones to networks appropriately at all airports, airfields, and other areas under FA responsibility so that they work well with end PABX System(s) and other equipment’s when necessary. The Cable Technician I position will report directly to Senior Cable Technician.

Key accountabilities:

Cabling Installation:

  • Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cables for CNS/ATM and Airport systems.
  • Ensure all cabling is properly labelled, tested, and meets industry standards.
 

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of cabling infrastructure.
  • Address and resolve issues promptly to minimize impact on operations.
 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements during installations and maintenance.
  • Keep up to date with industry standards and practices.
 

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to the engineering team and other stakeholders as required.
  • Assist in training junior technicians on cabling standards and practices.
 

Project Collaboration:

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure successful completion of projects.
  • Participate in project planning and provide input on cabling needs and considerations.

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience: 

  • A Trade Certificate in either Telecommunications or Electronics Engineering Technology.
  • Additional certifications in working at heights, and optic fibre installation and fault isolation and repair.
