Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

The University of Fiji seeks a creative and dynamic person for the position of Senior Accounts Receivable Officer. The position will be based at Saweni Campus but the successful candidate may be required to work from other University site, and campuses when required. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing student accounts, receivables, and sponsor billing while supporting the overall financial operations of the institution. The role involves overseeing debtor collections, assisting with student registration processes, maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, and preparing accurate accounts receivable reports. It also ensures strict adherence to financial policies and procedures, contributing to efficient cash flow management and high-quality service delivery. The successful candidate will be responsible to the Chief Finance, Planning and Development Officer and Director Finance.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and manage student accounts receivable functions, ensuring accurate billing, timely fee collection, and effective account management;
  • Coordinate sponsorship and third-party billing arrangements, including the preparation of invoices, account reconciliation, and timely follow-up of outstanding payments;
  • Implement and monitor credit control measures to minimize financial risk, enforce account holds where appropriate, and ensure compliance with University policies;
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of student billing processes, including fee adjustments, refunds, scholarships, and other account transactions;
  • Perform regular reconciliations of student accounts, bank receipts, and general ledger balances, promptly investigating and resolving discrepancies or disputes;
  • Prepare debtor aging reports, monitor collection performance, analyse trends, and provide relevant financial information and recommendations to management;
  • Ensure compliance with University financial regulations, policies, procedures, and internal controls, while supporting internal and external audit requirements;
  • Contribute to the enhancement and continuous improvement of billing, collection, and financial management processes, including the effective utilization of ERP and Student Management Systems;
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, parents, sponsors, and internal departments to facilitate effective communication and service delivery; and
  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director Finance and Chief Finance, Planning and Development Officer from time to time.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 4 years' relevant professional experience;
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Navision and financial reporting tools would be an added advantage;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word;
  • Sound understanding of inventory management principles and practices;
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a professional, confident, and customer-focused manner;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization, as well as independently when required;
  • Proven ability to manage workload effectively and perform duties with minimal supervision;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, financial procedures, and corporate policies and processes;
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and computer literacy skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated record of professional achievement, integrity, adaptability, and the ability to contribute positively to operational improvement and organizational effectiveness; and
  • Candidates should provide evidence of relevant skills, competencies, and experience, demonstrating initiative, resilience, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.

Salary Band: $40,836.70 - $54,456.90

The University offers a three-year full-time contract with renewals subject to performance reviews.
