Building & Civil Works Maintenance Engineer - Nauso

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role:

This position reports to MNOS and is responsible for ensuring that NAUSORI and OUTER STATION Airport Aerodrome & Building Assets is to be maintained to meet the requirements of their continued cost-effective operation. This includes progressing asset condition assessment maintenance planning and the provision of reactive and preventative maintenance such that asset in a fit for purpose condition whilst minimizing the asset life cycle cost.

Key accountabilities:

Develop maintenance program

  • Review current asset condition and historical maintenance data to prioritize maintenance activities.
  • Create a detailed annual maintenance schedule, including both preventive and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to ensure materials and services are available as per the maintenance schedule.
  • Regularly update the maintenance program based on new asset condition assessments or unexpected operational needs.

Safety and Compliance

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols for all maintenance tasks, ensuring adherence to both regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Ensure all team members are trained on safety procedures and protocols before undertaking any maintenance work.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, addressing any non-compliance issues promptly.

Continuous Improvement and development

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance maintenance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead initiatives to introduce new technologies or methodologies to improve asset management and maintenance practices.
  • Facilitate regular training sessions for the team to develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Encourage and support team members in pursuing professional development opportunities.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Develop and implement a system for tracking maintenance activities, ensuring that all tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Monitor the performance of assets post-maintenance to assess the effectiveness of the maintenance work.
  • Analyse maintenance data to identify trends and make recommendations for future maintenance planning
  • Conduct regular reviews of team performance against KPIs and take corrective actions if necessary

Communication and Reporting

  • Prepare and submit monthly maintenance reports to the MNOS, highlighting completed tasks, ongoing projects, and any issues encountered.
  • Maintain open communication with other departments, providing updates on maintenance activities and seeking input when necessary.
  • Organize and lead regular team meetings to discuss maintenance progress, challenges, and upcoming tasks.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and mutual understanding

Documentation

  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are properly documented, including the completion of checklists, work orders, and safety reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of asset conditions, maintenance histories, and any repairs or replacements made.
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure that all documentation is readily accessible and up to date for audit and review purposes

 

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience:

  • Applicable qualifications in Engineering, such as a Diploma in Civil Engineering or a Certificate with 5-10 years of experience in aviation-oriented work.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role overseeing maintenance or engineering teams.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Knowledge of Friction Testing and its application in airport operations.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Self-driven and reliable, with the ability to take initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting with senior and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maturity and professionalism in handling responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, accept responsibility, and work effectively under tight schedules.
