We are currently seeking a highly motivated Network & Billing Operations Engineer (Level 1) to join our Technical Operations Team at the Digicel Office, Khalsa, reporting to the Core Network & Billing Operations Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our growth and innovation!
The role will mainly be responsible for the first-line monitoring, troubleshooting and operational support of Core Network and Billing platforms and services for Fiji and Hub markets, ensuring timely incident detection, escalation and resolution in line with established procedures and SLAs. The role works closely with L2/L3 teams, vendors and other stakeholders to maintain service availability, performance and continuity.
Core responsibilities:
- Monitor Core Network and Billing platforms, network elements, alarms, events and service dashboards to promptly identify faults, degradation and service-impacting issues.
- Acknowledge, classify, prioritize and manage Core Network and Billing incidents and alarms in accordance with defined operational procedures, service impact and SLA requirements.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting and fault isolation using approved SOPs, MOPs, troubleshooting guides and monitoring tools, applying workarounds where available.
- Perform basic signaling and protocol trace analysis to assist in identifying voice, data, signaling and interworking issues, using available protocol analyzers and diagnostic tools, and escalate complex protocol-level issues to L2/L3 engineering teams.
- Log, update, track and maintain accurate trouble tickets for Core Network and Billing incidents, ensuring timely documentation of troubleshooting actions, escalations and resolutions.
- Escalate unresolved or complex incidents to L2/L3 engineering teams and vendors in accordance with the escalation matrix and agreed SLAs, while following up until resolution or formal handover.
- Perform routine health checks and service verification of Core Network and Billing platforms, monitoring service availability and basic KPIs and escalating abnormal conditions or service degradation.
- Provide first-line operational support for voice, data, prepaid, post-paid and Billing services, performing basic connectivity, service and transaction checks before escalation.
- Support planned maintenance, approved work orders, upgrades and product/service rollouts by performing authorized L1 operational activities, pre-checks and post-change validation.
- Participate in a scheduled roster to provide operational support for Core Network and Billing platforms, including timely response to alarms, incidents and service-impacting issues during assigned shifts.
- Work closely with Core Network Engineering, Billing, IT, Service Assurance, Field Operations, Product teams and vendors to support timely incident resolution, service restoration and continuous service availability.
Academic qualifications, Experience & Skills required for this role:
- University qualification in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or another relevant technological field.
- Understanding of telecommunications operator network architecture, setup and operational processes.
- Solid technical background with practical understanding and/or hands-on experience in telecommunications network operations.
- Knowledge of network equipment operations, telecommunications standards and relevant operational procedures.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience of operation and maintenance of Core and/or Billing nodes.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP standards/recommendations, GSM/GPRS services and associated protocols.
- Knowledge of service assurance, network monitoring and operational support within a telecommunications environment.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve system, network and interworking issues, with appropriate escalation where required.
- Ability to communicate effectively internally, upward and cross-functionally, including with technical teams, and vendors.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and contribute effectively within a team environment.
