Project Manager

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role:  

The Project Manager is responsible for, coordinating, and managing assigned infrastructure and operational projects for Fiji Airports under the direction of the Senior Project Manager. This role supports the planning, implementation and monitoring of projects to ensure delivery in accordance with approved scope, budget, timelines, organisational requirements and applicable standards. The position coordinates internal teams, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders, monitors project progress, resources, risks and costs, and provides regular project reports and updates to the Senior Project Manager. The role also supports project planning, procurement, contract administration and project governance requirements to facilitate effective project delivery.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate and manage assigned infrastructure and operational projects in accordance with approved project scope, budget and programme.
  • Monitor project progress and identify issues that may affect project scope, cost, quality, schedule or delivery.
  • Coordinate internal project teams, consultants, contractors and other stakeholders to support effective project implementation.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, reports, registers and project records.
  • Monitor project resources, expenditure and budget utilisation and highlight potential cost pressures or variances.
  • Assist with the preparation of project proposals, business cases, budget submissions, tenders and construction cost estimates.
  • Coordinate procurement and contract administration activities in accordance with Fiji Airports policies, procedures and delegated authority.
  • Monitor project risks and issues and coordinate appropriate mitigation and corrective actions.
  • Ensure project activities and documentation comply with applicable Fiji Airports policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and project standards.
  • Provide timely project progress reports and updates to the Senior Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments and stakeholders to address project requirements, dependencies and operational considerations.
  • Monitor contractor and consultant performance against agreed project requirements and escalate significant performance issues where required.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, including property ownership and related documentation.
  • Support improvements to project delivery practices, processes and documentation.
  • Provide guidance and support to project team members to facilitate effective project delivery. Undertake other duties relevant to the position as assigned by the Senior Project Manager.

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Project Management with at least 7 years relevant experience or a Diploma with 10 years practical project delivery experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing project teams, consultants, and contractors, with accountability for project delivery, budgets, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven experience in Contract Administration and Project Management 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and other project management software. 
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large, multi-stakeholder, and safety-critical projects with successful project management capabilities; experience in scoping and supervising on building services systems is desirable. 
  • A valid driver’s licence

  • Knowledge of Project Management Methodology

  • Sound technical knowledge of building services and building construction works 
  • Must be familiar with the National Building Code of Fiji, and relevant international standards such as Australian Standards 
  • Ability to produce, read and manipulate schedules and scheduling reports 
  • Strong Analytical Skills 
  • Risk Management and Cost Controls Skills 
  • Basic finance and procurement knowledge 
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Requirements 
  • Good interpersonal skills and team-building skills 
  • Must be resilient, have courage and act with integrity  
  • Demonstrated capacity to take initiative and achieve results 
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision 
  • Demonstrated experience using Project management tools, Autocad and other MS Office Tools 
  • Excellent organisation, presentation and interpersonal skills. 
  • A strong customer service orientation 
  • Very good communication skills 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement projects  
  • Demonstrates flexibility to work after hours and on weekends when operational demands require.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to manage executive reporting, steering committees, and cross-functional teams
  • Budget planning, cost control, and financial reporting for capital and operational projects
  • Contract management, procurement oversight, and vendor performance management.
