Head Pastry Chef – Yasawa Island Resort & Spa
Yasawa Island Resort & Spa is seeking a dedicated, serious Head Pastry Chef who wants to help us build a world-class culinary destination. We are not there yet, but we are actively striving toward that goal. This is a focused kitchen executing meals for a maximum of 40 guests. Service is controlled, structured, and manageable for a capable professional who values organizational discipline over chaos.
This role requires living on-site on a strict rotational schedule: 24 days on-site, followed by 5 days off.
POSITION OVERVIEW
- Role: Head Pastry Chef
- Location: Yasawa Island Resort & Spa, Yasawa Islands, Fiji
- Reporting To: Executive Chef
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Precision Execution: Prepare and set up sections strictly according to recipe specifications and presentation standards.
- Consistency: Ensure every single dish leaving your station meets our quality baselines across consecutive shifts.
- Flawless Hygiene: Maintain immaculate kitchen cleanliness, strict food safety protocols, and sanitary workspaces.
- Kitchen Production: Handle daily food production, including knife work and basic cooking techniques, for about 40-guest service.
- Note: Inventory control and stock ordering are fully managed by a dedicated team member; you are strictly focused on culinary production.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Professional Background: 2 to 3 years of commercial kitchen experience. Experience in resort settings is preferred but not required.
- Technical Credential: Trade Certificate in Commercial Cookery or equivalent formal kitchen training.
- Personal Standards: High attention to detail, punctuality, and a strong desire to learn and implement disciplined culinary systems.
- Adaptability: Complete readiness to live and work in a remote island environment for the full 24-day rotation.
- Compliance: Valid food handler’s certificate and a clean police clearance report.
COMPENSATION & ON-SITE PROVISIONS
- Housing: Free on-island staff housing provided during your 24-day shift. 5 days off on rotation.
- One round trip flight per rotation
