Job Description
- Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships,
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns, and other Australian Taxation Office (ATO) compliance obligations.
- Prepare workpapers, reconciliations, journals, and supporting documentation to a high standard.
- Ensure compliance with Australian taxation legislation, accounting standards, and internal quality procedures.
- Liaise with clients to obtain information, respond to queries, and maintain professional relationships.
- Assist with tax planning, business advisory engagements, and other value-added services as required.
- Use accounting software including Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, APS/XPM, FYI Docs, BGL, and Microsoft Office.
- Manage assigned client work to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Identify technical issues and escalate complex matters to the Senior Tax Accountant where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with team members and actively participate in training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain client confidentiality and comply with company policies, procedures, and professional standards.
- Perform any other accounting or taxation duties as directed by the Senior Tax Accountant or Management.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- 2–3 years' experience in Australian public practice accounting (or strong exposure to Australian accounting).
- Basic understanding of Australian taxation legislation and accounting principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Desirable
- Experience using Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, APS/XPM, FYI Docs, BGL, or similar accounting software.
- Commenced or intending to commence CA ANZ or CPA Australia.
- Exposure to Australian tax compliance and financial reporting.
