Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Technical Assistant. The purpose of this position is to perform routine multi-disciplinary laboratory duties, including Phlebotomy, Specimen Reception and Distribution, Haematology and Coagulation, Blood Bank, Biochemistry, Serology, after-hours STAT Microbiology, and Point-of-Care (POC) PCR testing.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Promote ethical behavior and alignment with Aspen Medical’s Social Purpose and B Corp principles.  
  • Perform the required Quality Control and Quality Assurance aspects in the Multi-disciplinary Laboratory IAW departmental policies and SOP’s. 
  • Adheres to Quality Management aspects and principles IAW best practice and departmental or organisational requirements. 
  • Provides technical support to:  other technical staff, Operational and Clinical staff.   
  • Assists in the training, supervision of new recruits, medical interns, and students if required. 
  • Can competently apply troubleshooting skills within the Multi-disciplinary Laboratory environment. 
  • Facilitates the provision of timely and dependable results to Clinicians. 
  • Ensure client confidentiality and good customer service practice.  
  • Perform duties as assigned. Or may be required to be assigned to other departments. 
  • Perform duties at seniority on a 7-day roster inclusive of on-call arrangements weekends and public holidays. 
  • Can be required to duties on a 24-hour 7-day roster inclusive of weekends and public holidays. 
  • May be required to perform duties permanently or temporarily in locations other than Ba.  
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures. 
  • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.  
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.  

  

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent.  
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the: pre-analytical, the analytical and post analytical process. 
  • Sound knowledge ofphlebotomy Specimen reception/distribution, Haematology/Coagulation, Blood bank, Serology, Biochemistry, After-hours STAT microbiology and POC PCR techniques with manual and automated platforms. 
  • Prioritisation and time management skills. 
  • Laboratory Information System experience. 

Desired 

  • Post-Certification experience in multi-disciplinary laboratory or Core Lab environment. 
  • Have sound oral and written communications skills.  
  • Strong Client and Service delivery focus.
