Airport Security Officer

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role:  

 

The Airport Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment at the airport including the mitigation of any risk that may prevail on landside and airside including all vulnerable access points for passengers, crew and airport workers.

 

Key Accountabilities:

1. Manning of Posts

  • Lead the team deployed at the post by maintaining the post and conducting screening and checks as outlined in the SOP and update Logbook for the particular post.
  • Ensure the access is limited to Authorized people only.
  • Ensure the team deployed at the posts understands the SOP and security AIC zoning.
  • Ensure correct required manning at the post and any shortage to be reported to Supervisor

2. CCTV Duties and responding to fire emergencies.

  • Ensure proper taking over and handing over is conducted.
  • Follow up any report on outage from outgoing shift.
  • Conduct camera checks and report camera outage.
  • Conduct surveillance on area of focus and liaise with documentation officer and supervisor on any concerns.
  • Respond to any alarm activated by the strobe light. Liaise with documentation officer on the area of focus and view the camera. Report status to documentation officer of Supervisor.
  • Work with Diary keeper on any cover alarm activation.

3. Diary Keeper (DK)

  • Conduct proper takeover and handover procedure.
  • Always maintain the diary. Entering all activities in the diary.
  • Receive call, disseminated any report for quick rectification to Supervisor and relevant department or stakeholders. All reports to be entered in the diary. Maintain telephone etiquette
  • Respond to any fire alarm activated by the strobe light. Check the fire panel and identify the zone of the alarm and refer to CCTV for camera view.
  • Report to Fire Watch Room with relevant information for assistance.
  • Respond and work with CCTV operator on any covert alarm activation.
  • Receive and respond to any communication on radio telephone (RT). All communication is to be documented in the diary.
  • Comply with the DK SOP
  • Upon supervisors’ approval, issue temporary passes when requested by authorised persons.
  • Every issuance is to be properly logged and in compliance with the issuing requirement.
  • Every returned temporary pass is to be properly logged and in compliance with the requirement

4. Security equipment test.

  • Conduct security equipment tests on all security equipment every midnight, or after any power failure or after equipment outage is rectified.
  • Any outage to be reported and highlighted in the checklist.
  • Records to be filled in on the checklist provided and submitted to Supervisors to sign off.

 

5. Sterile area search

  • Conduct sterile area search according to the SOP on the entire sterile area reflected in the Airport Security Program. Records have to be filled out on the checklist form provided and submitted to Supervisors to sign off.

6. Foot patrol

  • Conduct surveillance on foot patrols as required in the SOP and checklists.
  • Record all activities in the Post Logbook/checklist and submit to supervisor for sign off.
  • Any suspicious activity or signs are to be reported immediately to the supervisor.
  • Records to be filled in on the checklist provided and submitted to Supervisors for sign off

7. Mobile Patrol

  • Conduct mobile patrols at regular intervals for perimeter fencing as per the SOP and checklist form provided.
  • Conduct mobile patrols at regular intervals for Communication Navigational Surveillance (CNS) sites as per the SOP and checklist form provided.
  • Conduct patrols on landside and CNS sites complying with the SOP and checklists form provided.
  • Any suspicious activity or signs are to be reported immediately to the supervisor. Records to be filled on the checklist provided and submitted to Supervisors to sign off.

8. Operational task.

  • Read and understand security documents (Airport Security Program, Security Exposition, Standard Operating Procedure).
  • Refer any document to supervisor that needs to be reviewed to reflect the correct practice on the ground.
  • Ensure to facilitate vehicle and passenger movements and facilitate removal of any illegally parked vehicle from marked areas.
  • Refer any details on aircraft and passenger movements to the Security Control Centre.
  • Review, enquire into and be informed on security techniques, systems, devices, practices, and procedures, related to the operation of civil aviation and persons employed or using it.
  • Conduct inspection/observation and report incidents or accidents to shift supervisor.
  • Escort vehicles and personnel into restricted areas as requested by the Shift Supervisor. Ensure all are holding valid and correct passes to authorize the entry.
  • Maintain public safety and order at the airport and air navigational installations (CNS).
  • Carry out any of its functions under the Civil Aviation Reform Act 1999, to co-operate with the police, Government departments, operators, and authorities administering the airport security service of other countries and with any appropriate international organisation.
  • Attend promptly to security reports of breaches and compile an initial report for further investigation.

9. Licensing and Competency

  • Ensure to hold a current security screeners license and to be level 3.
  • Ensure Proficiency is current at all time and request proficiency test at least 5 days before expiry.

10. Carry out any other duties assigned by MASS or immediate supervisor from time to time.

 

 

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience:

  • Form 7 pass or at least 5 years of relevant experience in an operational security, law enforcement, or related environment.
  • Good command of English both oral and written
  • General administrative knowledge
  • Computer Literacy will be an added advantage.
  • To be confirmed as an Aviation Security Officer, one must pass the ICAO STP 123 and obtain the Screener’s Certificate which is issued by CAAF.
  • Clear Police record.

  • Must be medically and physically fit.
  • Must possess good interpersonal/customer relations skills.
  • Must be vigilant and confident to carry out aviation security duties effectively.
  • Sober habits
  • Holds a clean & valid driving license.
  • Must have the ability to influence positive changes and motivate colleagues for continuous improvement.
  • Must be a mature person who is very reliable, trustworthy, and honest with high level of integrity
