Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role:   

 

The Painter reports to the Foreman – Building by ensuring that the painting works are carried out as per schedules or as required for new works to ensure that building surfaces are well protected from nature and the image is up lifted. This role contributes to the safety and effectiveness of the company’s operations by ensuring that all FA properties are consistently maintained in good condition and align with the company’s corporate plan and specifications.

Key Accountabilities:

Maintenance and Support

  • Surface Assessment: Regularly inspect surfaces for signs of damage or wear. Identify areas needing maintenance or preparation before painting.
  • Repair Work: Perform minor repairs on surfaces, including patching holes, sanding rough areas, and addressing issues such as Mold or mildew.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all painting tools and equipment are in good working condition. Clean brushes, rollers, and spray equipment after use to prolong their life.
  • Stock Management: Monitor paint supplies and materials. Inform the Foreman or team leader when stock levels are low and assist in ordering new supplies.
  • Installations: to frame, fix and finish plasterboard sheets for walls and ceilings to a standard that satisfy the needs of the end client, or the standards given in plans and specifications.
  • Develop and implement most economical and efficient painting solutions
  • Prepare surface properly by scraping off flaking paint, filling gaps and seams prior to painting
  • Apply coats of under coat or final painting as necessary
  • To frame, fix and finish plasterboard sheets for walls and ceilings to a standard that satisfy the needs of the end client, or the standards given in plans and specifications.
  • Ensure drop-sheets are properly laid out to catch drops/run-off
  • Ensure that all painting works are completed in neat and tidy manner.
  • Assist Foreman - Building in preparing list of items necessary for jobs.
  • Assist plumbing and carpentry team.
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the position or related assigned by the Foreman - Building or Team Leader from time to time.

 

Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while working, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and goggles.
  • Hazardous Materials Handling: Properly handle and dispose of any hazardous materials, including paint thinners and solvents, in accordance with safety regulations.
  •  Ventilation: Ensure work areas are well-ventilated to prevent inhalation of fumes and maintain a safe environment.

 

Continuous Improvement and Development

  • Process Improvement: Provide feedback and suggestions for improving painting processes and techniques to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Adopt New Technologies: Stay informed about new technologies or products in the painting industry and recommend their use if beneficial.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Job Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including surface preparation, types of paint used, and number of coats applied.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any accidents, incidents, or safety concerns to the Foreman or Team Leader immediately. Progress Reports: Assist in preparing progress reports for ongoing projects, noting any issues encountered or changes made to the initial plan.

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience:

  • Possess a relevant Trade Certificate with 2–3 years of practical experience, or alternatively, have 5+ years of equivalent industry experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of painting products, including their applications.
  • Strong understanding of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of building methods and materials, with the ability to properly use and maintain tools.
  • Familiarity with building and safety regulations, including the ability to interpret drawings and architectural plans.
  • Understanding of health and safety procedures on building sites.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  • Basic computer skills are an added advantage.
  • Have a Valid driving license.
  • Experience working effectively within a team environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations, documentation, and compliance standards is desirable.

  • Ability to safely operate power tools and machines.
