Team Leader Apron Operations

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Purpose of the Role: 

The Team Leader Apron Operations is responsible for implementing safety measures, policing of apron rules and procedures and the monitoring of facilities, lighting, markings & signage to ensure the safety of operations on the apron area.

The role is also responsible for the operational availability of the apron in ensuring that the pavement is fit for purpose and the surroundings are absent of threats that could jeopardise the safe operations of aircraft manoeuvring. In the event of unsafe areas being identified, the Officer shall initiate the closure of a gate or a portion of the apron until rectified. The role is responsible for the appropriate allocation of parking gates for aircraft as documented in the Fiji Aeronautical Information Publication and the safe manoeuvring of the Passenger Boarding Bridges by certified staff, to dock with an aircraft.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  1.  To ensure the conduct of the daily apron, lighting and infrastructure inspections and submit reports to Manager Airside Operations.
  2.  To implement and monitor compliance of the Foreign Object Debris (FOD) program.
  3.  To enforce relevant provisions of the Air Navigation Regulations and Airside Operations Manual rules and regulations and take appropriate disciplinary action where required. To provide reports to the Manager Airside Operations on any findings or breaches of the Aviation Regulations or procedures for further corrective action.
  4. Assist the MAO to develop and maintain manuals and documents relevant to airside apron operations.
  5. To conduct vehicle and ground service equipment inspections and issuance of Airside vehicle permits and conduct on-the-spot vehicle and equipment inspection on Airside with the view of removing unsafe equipment and provide a report to the Senior Airside Operations Coordinator.
  6. To monitor the safe operation of aerobridges by certified staff at the parking bay for docking purposes for aircraft.
  7. To conduct safety audits of apron operations including aircraft turnaround.
  8. To conduct apron accident and incident investigations, maintain incident database and submit report to MAO and analyse, disseminate information to CAAF and stakeholders on apron incidents.
  9. Provide Airside Safety Training for FA and stakeholders at Nadi Airport.
  10. To act as Safety Officer for all works to be conducted on the apron area with the authority to defer or stop any activity considered unsafe to aircraft operations.
  11. To assist in the daily wildlife hazard inspections and take action to reduce the number of bird or wildlife hazard by use of approved methods including culling by the use of live firearms where necessary, in the absence of the Wildlife Ranger and submit report to MAO.
  12. To maintain safe and efficient vehicle & personnel movement under the guidance of the Team Leader Airside Operations.       
  13. To collect and submit hourly parking data to the Finance department on a daily basis.
  14. To make recommendations for improvements to vehicle control procedures employed on the Apron.
  15. Issue NOTAM request where necessary to highlight changes to facilities that may affect the safety of flight operations.
  16. Coordinate with MAO and provide advice parking for aircraft to mitigate apron congestion. 
  17.   Carry out any other duties within the scope of the position or related assigned by the immediate Supervisor or department head from time to time.

Qualifications, Professional Knowledge and Experience:

  • Either Diploma level qualification in Aviation or similar field with 3 years of work experience relevant to the job OR Certificate level qualification with 5 years of work experience relevant to the job OR educated up to high school level with 10 years and more of work experience relevant to the job OR Holder of an Aerodrome Control Rating or Private Pilot License with at least 1year relevant experience
  • Have a valid and clean driving license
  • Proficient in Microsoft office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook) is a must
  • Must have exceptional communication skills to effectively communicate with all customers and stakeholders, senior management, government agencies, emergency services to ensure that the operational plans and activities are executed efficiently and effectively
