Heavy Duty Driver / Cargo Handling Operator

The Organisation    

The Ifira Ports Development Services Limited (IPDS) is one of the three of the main ports in Vanuatu. The IPDS Ltd port is the main port for all international freight and containers cargo arriving in the capital while the Government international wharf is dedicated for all cruise vessels, gas and petrol tankers.    

The Position    

The Heavy Duty Driver is responsible for safely operating heavy vehicles to transport goods, equipment, or materials in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements. This role ensures timely deliveries, proper vehicle maintenance, and safe driving practices while representing the company in a professional manner.    

Essential Selection Criteria    

► Valid Heavy Vehicle Driver License (e.g., HR, HC, MC or equivalent).    

► Proven experience operating heavy-duty trucks or commercial vehicles.    

► Strong knowledge of road regulations and safe driving practices.    

► Ability to perform physical tasks such as loading/unloading or securing cargo.    

► Good communication skills and professional attitude.    

► Basic mechanical knowledge for identifying vehicle issues.    

► Experience in logistics, construction, transport, or freight operations.    

► Certifications in defensive driving or heavy vehicle operations (advantageous).    

► Experience in operating crane trucks is an advantage    

► Dangerous Goods (DG) certification if transporting hazardous materials.
