Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Occupational Health Safety (OHS) & Wellness Officer. The role is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in occupational health, safety, wellness, and compliance across Aspen Medical’s Fiji healthcare facilities. The role ensures that all hospital operations, employees, contractors, and visitors operate within a safe, compliant, and healthy environment in accordance with Fiji legislative requirements, international healthcare safety standards, and organizational policies. This role supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of workplace safety systems, employee wellness initiatives, incident prevention strategies, psychosocial safety, infection prevention controls, emergency preparedness, and organizational risk management frameworks.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Lead the implementation, review, and continuous improvement of OHS systems, frameworks, policies, procedures, and manuals
  • Ensure compliance with Fiji OHS legislation, Ministry of Health standards, fire regulations, and healthcare accreditation requirements
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, audits, and hazard assessments across clinical and non-clinical areas
  • Develop corrective action plans and monitor implementation
  • Maintain up-to-date risk registers, hazard logs, and safety documentation
  • Ensure contractor and visitor safety compliance standards are met
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, and hazards
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures
  • Maintain accurate incident records and injury registers (AspiraIQ)
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual OHS performance reports
  • Present findings to management and OHS committees
  • Monitor trends and recommend strategic interventions
  • Coordinate and deliver OHS induction programmes for new employees
  • Conduct regular staff education sessions on, workplace safety, manual handling, fire safety, infection prevention and control, emergency preparedness, psychosocial wellbeing and violence prevention
  • Lead emergency drills including, fire evacuation, code response, disaster preparedness and mass casualty response
  • Coordinate employee wellness initiatives and wellbeing programmes
  • Promote mental health awareness and psychosocial safety
  • Support initiatives to prevent workplace stress, fatigue, bullying, harassment, and burnout
  • Collaborate with CP on wellness campaigns and workforce resilience programmes
  • Coordinate OHS committee meetings
  • Monitor committee performance and compliance outcomes
  • Support department heads in implementing safety improvements
  • Prepare committee reports and recommendations
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and stakeholders as required
  • Monitor workplace environmental risks including, waste management, hazardous substances, chemical safety, sharps safety, PPE compliance
  • Support infection prevention initiatives in collaboration with clinical teams
  • Benchmark OHS practices against healthcare industry standards
  • Recommend innovations to improve safety culture
  • Assist in accreditation and regulatory preparation
  • Support broader organizational risk management objectives
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive safety investigations
  • Participate in organizational projects related to safety, quality, and performance
  • Provide after-hours support during emergencies where required
  • Support multi-site safety operations across Aspen Medical Fiji facilities
  • Undertake any other duties as delegated by management

Experience and Qualifications Required

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health or Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in the field of OHS or Environmental health.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Fiji OHS laws and regulations
  • Experience in Environmental Sustainability
  • Strong policy development and implementation experience
  • Experience in healthcare, hospital, or high-risk operational environments
  • Excellent report writing, investigation, and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Experience coordinating staff wellness programmes
  • Ability to conduct training and workplace education
  • High level organizational and time management skills

Desired

  • Experience within healthcare or hospital systems
  • Professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Knowledge of ISO safety standards or healthcare accreditation systems
  • Training in incident investigation methodologies
  • Experience in psychosocial risk management
  • Fire safety or emergency management certification
  • Human Resources or Culture & Performance experience
