Aspen Medical is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Shift Supervisor Nursing. The role ​is responsible for the hospital’s clinical and operational functions during assigned shifts, ensuring continuity of care, patient safety, and appropriate staffing levels across all wards. The Shift Supervisor acts as the central point of contact for clinical escalation, emergency coordination, and administrative decision-making outside regular hours. The position holder must have strong communication skills, diplomacy, and the ability to take leadership under challenging situations.             

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assist to ensure that all staff are working effectively within Scope of Practice to provide nursing care to all patients admitted in ward (shift reports written and handover done to the next Shift Charge and Team)  
  • Assist to ensure updated stock takes and ordering of drugs, consumables are completed monthly and that all equipment is checked weekly (checking of all equipment’s, consumable stock and Dangerous Drugs counted and tally per shifts.)  
  • Assist to provide regular supervision, mentoring and assist in ward training sessions/case review at least monthly with staff to ensure that policies, procedures, and guidelines are followed to meet approved standards (also ensure staff are aware of training opportunities and CPD requirements). 
  • Assist in demonstrating positive communication and interactions with staff, clients and stakeholders and provide regular updates to the Assist Director of Nursing. 
  • Provide support by obtaining daily early morning round updates of staff activities and give feedback at the unit morning daily handover session. (Ensure timely response is provided and referral with evacuation of cases done appropriately.)  
  • Ensure that daily ward activity data is collected (accurately) entered in the patient management system to assist the Sister in Charge in the collating of ward reports. 
  • Plans, organizes, and oversees staff to provide patient care, evaluates care and ensures customer satisfaction. 
  • Monitor the performance of the staff and maintain records of achievements, progress, and under-achievements to identify learning gaps for service improvement and training. Always ensure proper and meticulous documentation. 
  • Prepare staff to create individual tailored training and change plans on daily basis during handing over. 
  • Maintenance of a safe working environment for support staffs and their patients. 
  • Ensure correct documentation and safe keeping of patients’ belongings.  
  • Ensure Patient Information System updated, reflecting patient’s journey and progress. 
  • Creating plan for resolving conflict in a way that benefits the individual nurses, team, and patients in a timely manner. 
  • To oversee, Msupply, Pay global, Skill Matrix and Tamanu.  
  • Organization of new admission, transfer, and retrievals daily. 
  • Participate in hospital JCI programs and quality certification initiatives. 
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace and comply with instructions given in adhering to safe work procedures. 
  • Take reasonable care to ensure own safety and health and that of others and to abide by our duty of care provided for in the OHS policy.  
  • Any other reasonable duties delegated by management.  

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) with a valid registration and practicing license with the Fiji Nursing Council 
  • Post Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Critical Care, or Emergency  
  • Strong Customer Services skills 
  • Experience in nursing at a major hospital, community health or similar nursing environment 
  • Good knowledge of the Nursing Act (2011), Scope of Practice, FNC Code of Ethics and Conduct, Public Service Code of Conduct, Occupational Health & Safety Act, and relevant legislations 
  • Understanding of the Fijian Constitution (2013) and applicable laws of Fiji. 
  • Ability to plan and manage the supply of pharmaceuticals and consumables. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient or client information. 
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Well verses with computer skills and Microsoft 360

Desired 

  • The position should have 8-10 years of working experience as clinical nursing experience in a tertiary Hospital.
