Electrical Estimator

Job Description & Skills/Qualifications Required

Senior Electrical Estimator

Company: MEACS Power Limited
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-Time

Lead Major Projects. Own the Numbers. Drive Growth.

MEACS Power is expanding and looking for a Senior Electrical Estimator who can take full ownership of the estimating function — from first principles take-offs to winning tenders and securing profitable projects.

This is not just a pricing role — this is a key leadership position where your decisions directly impact company growth, margins, and long-term success.

Your Role (What You Will Own)

End-to-End Estimating Leadership

  • Lead and manage full tender lifecycle from enquiry to submission
  • Deliver high-accuracy cost estimates for commercial and industrial projects
  • Perform detailed scaled take-offs across:
    • Lighting, power, emergency & exit systems
    • Data, CCTV, security & integrated systems
    • Cable tray, trunking, conduit & containment
    • Submains, switchboards, generators & UPS systems
  • Build estimates from first principles, not guesswork

Commercial & Strategic Control

  • Analyse drawings, specs, and identify risk, gaps, and opportunities
  • Drive value engineering and cost optimisation strategies
  • Set labour productivity rates, build-up costs, and margins
  • Negotiate with suppliers (Corys, J.A. Russell, Ideal Electrical, etc.)
  • Lead pricing strategy to win work without sacrificing margin

Engineering & Technical Oversight

  • Review and validate electrical designs
  • Support design-build solutions and shop drawings (BMS, controls, mechanical electrical)
  • Ensure compliance with NZ standards and best practices
  • Provide technical direction on:
    • Cable sizing & routing
    • Switchboard configuration
    • Load balancing & system efficiency

Business Impact

  • Work directly with the Director on high-value tenders and strategy
  • Support client meetings, clarifications, and negotiations
  • Assist in building long-term client relationships and repeat work
  • Contribute to improving internal systems (Simpro, cost tracking, templates)

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Senior Electrical Estimator (5+ years)
  • Strong background in commercial and industrial electrical projects
  • Ability to confidently handle $100K – $5M+ project tenders
  • Deep understanding of:
    • NZ electrical standards and installation practices
    • Switchboards, submains, and distribution systems
    • Full project costing and risk analysis
  • Highly skilled in reading drawings and specifications with precision
  • Strong commercial mindset — you understand profit, not just cost
  • Experience with estimating/project software (Simpro or similar) preferred

What Sets You Apart

  • You don’t miss details
  • You challenge drawings and improve them
  • You price to win — but protect margin
  • You think like a business owner, not just an employee

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary + performance incentives
  • Direct involvement in high-value projects and decision-making
  • Opportunity to build and lead the estimating function
  • Long-term growth into commercial/operations leadership
  • Strong pipeline of commercial and industrial work
