POSITION OVERVIEW

Pacific Ark Pte Ltd is seeking a highly experienced Master Bamboo Carpenter to lead specialist bamboo construction works across our projects in Fiji. This role is focused on advanced structural bamboo construction, bamboo joinery systems, furniture fabrication, and on site training of local carpenters.

This position supports Pacific Ark’s work to establish a professional bamboo construction industry in Fiji, delivering cyclone resilient structures to international standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead complex structural bamboo builds including villas, pavilions, decks, roofing systems, and elevated walkways
• Execute advanced bamboo joinery systems including fish mouth joints, pegging, lashing, concealed steel connections, and node reinforcement
• Fabricate bamboo furniture, custom joinery, and architectural features
• Supervise and train local carpenters in bamboo selection, treatment, processing, joinery, and installation
• Contribute to bamboo harvesting, treatment, curing, and processing methods
• Interpret construction drawings and ensure quality control across all builds
• Maintain safe work practices and site organisation

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Minimum 7–10 years proven experience in bamboo construction or structural natural building
• Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory or team leader role
• Demonstrated experience delivering large scale structural bamboo projects such as villas, pavilions, or roofing systems
• Advanced competency in bamboo joinery systems including fish mouth joints, pegging, lashing, concealed steel, and node reinforcement
• Strong understanding of bamboo treatment, curing, processing, and preservation
• Ability to train and mentor junior carpenters on site
• Certificate or Diploma in Carpentry, Construction, Woodworking, or equivalent trade qualification
• Bamboo specific training or certification is highly preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

• 6 days per week, 8 hours per day
• Based primarily at Gaia Earth Estate, Vanua Levu
• Outdoor and workshop based role
