Position Description

The Field Technician assembles, installs, and maintains Adasa's hydrometric monitoring stations across Fiji, covering water level, rainfall, and water quality sites.

The role is hands on and field based. It works under the direction of the Operations Manager, assembling to the approved electrical design, installing sensors to the approved site design, coordinating subcontractor site works, and keeping stations running through maintenance and first-line fault response.

Working arrangements

  • The role is field based and can be based anywhere in Fiji, with frequent travel to sites across Fiji, including remote and outer island locations.
  • The role will be required to join a standby roster for maintenance of sites, and to provide support during severe weather events.
  • Adasa will provide tools, test equipment, PPE, a laptop, and a phone.
  • The employee must follow Adasa HSE procedures, including remote travel, working near water, and electrical safety requirements. Lone working at remote sites must comply with Fiji requirements and Adasa's safety procedures.

Responsibilities

1. Assembly and installation

  • Assemble and wire station cabinets to the approved electrical design
  • Install stations on site, including mounts, cabling, earthing, solar arrays, and batteries
  • Install, connect, and calibrate sensors, and install telemetry hardware, including antennas, to the approved site design and sensor positions
  • Raise design issues rather than changing the design in the field, and complete as-built markups

2. Subcontractor coordination

  • Coordinate subcontractor site works day to day
  • Check subcontractor work against the approved design, and report issues to the Operations Manager

3. Commissioning support

  • Carry out pre-commissioning checks
  • Support the Integrator and the Electrical Designer and SCADA Technician during FAT and SAT

4. Maintenance and fault response

  • Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance, including sensor cleaning, battery, solar, and cabling checks
  • Carry out first-line fault finding, and escalate measurement, datalogger, and telemetry faults to the Integrator and electrical and SCADA faults to the Electrical Designer and SCADA Technician
  • Maintain installation, maintenance, and fault records, and manage spare parts and tools

Required Skills

  • Trade qualification as an electrician
  • Current Fiji electrical licence, or the ability to obtain one
  • At least 3 years' hands-on electrical experience, ideally in industrial, utilities, or field services
  • Able to read and build from electrical drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Experience with low-voltage DC systems, solar, and batteries
  • Safe, methodical approach to field work
  • Comfortable working independently at remote sites, including outer islands
  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to understand technical documentation, communicate with the international team, and complete field reports
  • Basic proficiency in standard office software to complete work reports, update records, and manage documentation
  • Current driver's licence and right to work in Fiji

Desirable

  • Experience with instrumentation, telemetry, or dataloggers
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors on site
  • Experience in the water or utilities sector
  • 4WD experience
  • Ability to communicate in iTaukei or Fiji Hindi

Training and development

Adasa will train the technician in station assembly, instrumentation, and telemetry, with mentoring from the wider team in Adasa, both in Fiji and in Australia and Spain. As skills grow, the technician can take on more commissioning and troubleshooting.
