Bula vinaka! Be our first local hire and help build MAP Projects in Fiji from the ground up.
MAP Projects is an international heavy civil contractor headquartered in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, working across NZ and the Pacific. We’ve recently completed two large dam projects, a wharf upgrade in the Cook Islands, and a hydro power scheme and transmission line in Vanuatu. We’ve now opened our new office in Denarau and are here for the long term, with opportunities already being pursued in the water and energy sectors.
We’re looking for an experienced civil engineer to work alongside our Country Manager to win work, engineer and deliver projects, and build the MAP team in Fiji.
The role
This is a genuine all-rounder role with engineering at its core. You’ll be involved in:
- Engineering: construction methodology and temporary works, reviewing designs, drawings and specifications, resolving technical issues on site, value engineering, and working with designers and consultants
- Project delivery: planning, programming, procurement, subcontractor management, quality and reporting
- Estimating and tendering: using your engineering know-how to develop methodologies, quantities and estimates, and helping prepare tender submissions and proposals
- Business development: building relationships with clients, consultants and authorities
- Innovation: we already use survey drones, GPS machine control and 3D modelling, and we want your ideas on what’s next
- Building the business: setting up the systems, suppliers and local networks that will support our growth in Fiji
Where you’ll work
Full-time in our Denarau office for at least the first 3 months, so you’ll need to be based in or near Nadi/Denarau. After that it becomes a mix of office and site work, with projects anywhere around Fiji.
What you’ll get from us
- The chance to shape a new business from day one and grow your role as we grow
- A competitive salary aligned to your experience
- Company laptop and phone, plus a vehicle when site-based
- Training and development opportunities
- Hands-on use of the latest tools, and a real say in the technology we adopt
- The support of an established international contractor, with exposure to projects across the Pacific
- A family-owned business with supportive leadership who trust you and don’t micromanage
Skills / Qualifications Required
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or an equivalent engineering qualification); professional registration, or working towards it, is an advantage
- 5+ years’ experience as an engineer in civil construction or infrastructure, ideally including contractor-side experience
- Estimating and tendering experience is a strong advantage: you’ll be pricing work as well as engineering it
- Experience with Fijian authorities such as the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) and Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) would be highly beneficial
- Tech-savvy, with ideas on how new technology can improve how we work
- Confident working with clients, authorities, consultants and crews
- A self-starter who can work independently in a small, growing team
- A genuine commitment to Health & Safety
- Willing to travel to project sites around Fiji
