The Pacific Fishing Company PTE Limited has been a critical component of Fiji’s economic growth since the 1950s. The idea was taken up and implemented before independence, with the belief that the ocean’s riches would become a sought-after resource by the international community, have strategic and political significance, and create wealth for Fiji and other Pacific Island nations. Today, PAFCO remains a major player in the fishing industry, helping to support the economy of Levuka and the entire Lomaiviti Group. 

PAFCO is the lifeline of Levuka’s economy and the largest employer on Ovalau island, with a workforce of over 870 skilled and general workers. This company’s positive financial impact spreads throughout the Lomaiviti group, where it operates, providing diversification of income and employment opportunities in the seven islands. PAFCO invests significantly in amenities and conditions for its employees, paying out around $8 million annually in wages and salaries, which benefits the entire province. The company supports the community with sponsorships and assistance, making it a true game-changer in the fishing industry, synonymous with tuna and putting Levuka on the map as a major fishing hub in the region. 

Pacific Fishing Company Pte Limited (PAFCO) has its modern cannery in the picturesque old capital Levuka on the island of Ovalau in Fiji. This is where the best quality Tuna catch is sorted, graded, processes and packed. PAFCO supplies a wide range of canned Tuna, including light-meat and white-meat in solid, chunks and flakes packed both in oil and brine as well as packed in water
