The Yacht Shop has been around since 1981, starting in Lami and branching out to Vuda, Denarau, Savusavu & the Royal Suva Yacht Club. The chain of five chandleries is part of the ‘Tradewinds Marine Group’ – a private company owned by the Philp family and headquartered in Suva, Fiji.
The Philp family works and plays in the ocean, and we use all the products we sell. We’ve built a name for ourselves as innovators, and being first to market we’ve been able to take on the best brand names in the business such as : Hobie, International Paints, Garmin, Fusion, Leatherman & Ronstan. Our commitment to quality over all else will never waiver. Especially in the area of marine safety where we are the exclusive local distributor of Ultra lifejackets that are manufactured in Fiji by PFD Fiji Ltd for export.
The Tradewinds Marine Group is a private family company that also operates two International Marina’s (Vuda and Copra Shed, Savusavu), and builds the successful Islander brand fibreglass boats in Lami.
The Phlip Family
Our Chairman Anthony C. Philp (president of the Fiji Yachting Association for 35 years), is current President of the Oceania Sailing Federation. Tony skippered the family yacht Tauon a circumnavigation around the globe in 1999 / 2000 – a first for a Fiji flagged yacht. Tau is a 27m ketch which patriarch Colin E. Philp designed & built himself in 1972 in Lami.
Director David Philp runs the Fibreglass Factory the builder of the now infamous Islander Boatsand was a board member of the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji. He has competed in the Olympic Games in sailing and is a boat captain.
Director John Philp is a former long time President of the Fiji Surfing Association, and founding Director of the Water Safety Council (Fiji) Ltd a non-profit body dedicated to reducing the drowning toll in Fiji.
Retail Consultant & Manager of The Yacht Shop chain is Colin Philp founding President of the Fiji Surfing Association and Fiji Islands Voyaging Society, and joint founder of Fiji’s lifejacket export manufacturing factory – PFD Ltd.
