Nasinu was formally incorporated a town in 2000, by the then Ministry for National Planning, Local Government and Environment under Section 5 of Local Government Act. The town boundary is divided in seven wards with total rate able properties of around 11,370 official ratepayers.

Nasinu is mainly residential heavy township with very little commercial and industrial outlets. In addition, the Town is also home to over 2000 houses in 19 informal settlements who the council also includes in basis hygiene services without a cost.
